@guineverecryptic.bsky.social 14a in the Quiptic today is very good IMHO. I solved it on the cross letters, but I've now gone back and worked out the parsing.

Whole grid finished.

If you ever wanted to get into cryptic crosswords but didn't know a way in... this was me a few months ago!

But @v21.bsky.social intro'd me to Minute Cryptic, then @martinpi.bsky.social & I started doing Guardian Quick Cryptic (where they explain the conventions), then Quiptic, & now full Cryptic

There is s separate list for QC, Quiptic and Genius - the figure of 91 covers daily puzzles only; there are several more, Dice included of course, who are in one or more of those series, swelling the total to well over 100.

Everyman done, Quiptic done, at this rate I'm going to have to do some housework. Wait I see a sudoku. As you were folks

I don’t think there is anything really comparable to be honest. Guardian Quiptic is meant to be a step between the two but I’d say it was variable as to how much it was. Times Quick Cryptic generally (don’t look at yesterday’s!) is more consistently at that level but you do have to pay for that :-(

Quiptic bollocks would be a suitable title. Anyone suggesting Quiptic Blah will be unfollowed. 🤬

It takes practice… and sometimes guesswork. The Guardian site has a “Quick Cryptic” & a “Quiptic” - both (usually) easier than the normal cryptic.

All are accessible (no paywall) on their site

Start off with the gentler one's like the Times Quick Cryptic (paywalled unfortunately) or the weekly quiptic from the Guardian. If you're an absolute beginner the quick cryptics are a good olace to learn.

My first stab at a Quiptic proved surprisingly popular. So here’s another.

Speculation that "Alia" - new Quiptic setter yesterday - may be Halpern. Based on 1) 4-letter pseudonym 2) Alia being Paul's sister in Dune. Plausible. Anyone got any inside gen? #GuardianCrossword

i do dabble in both the quick cryptic and quiptic - it is the latter that tends to stump me. specifically when Anto is the setter...

Guardian Quiptic 1333: Cleaner, someone despondent keeping quiet (6)"

Answer is Mopper. I can see "Cleaner" is the definition and that "someone despondent" is a moper, but I don't understand where this second P comes from
June 17, 2025 at 3:54 AM
Yup, I’ve started on Quick Cryptic. Can usually finish that by the end of Saturday and spend the rest of the week working on the Quiptic. I’ve got about 3 more clues done since getting the D-word. My favourite thing is staring at a clue for hours, then glancing at it later and getting it immediately
May 25, 2025 at 10:49 AM
I quite like the double instruction but I would have probably added an "inside" for the Quiptic in this case.

I remember Paul did something similar with "lubricated" meaning "covered with OIL"
May 12, 2025 at 11:04 AM
It took me a while to get that. First thought is that it doesn't belong in a Quiptic.

Second thought is that I'd want a QM at least for that construction.

Still undecided on whether it's a good clue in the wrong place or just a bit iffy all round.
