"if you're willing to sacrifice community for the sake of getting more attention and therefore more money in the bank, then the Internet is a flawless place for business… the internet makes it extremely easy to overvalue performance at the cost of building a real community."

The ATProto Community Fund participated with the #FreeOurFeeds team at #ProtocolsForPublishers last month in New York.

Very excited to see them host a European ATProto & #Eurosky event around the Franco-German Sovereignty Summit in November!

Setting up shop with @bmann.ca at @betaworks.com for the day ahead of #protocolsforpublishers

Thanks @kissane.bsky.social for citing my post, & @bmann.ca for tagging me & the excellent #ProtocolsforPublishers.

My work explains why it is not subs or micropayments, but fixed prices that cannot be value based—and that digital enables a process for value-based relationship pricing.

It was great meeting @rreisman.bsky.social at #ProtocolsForPublishers. We didn’t end up officially covering web payments and this is a very good read.

I wonder if “micropatronage” (rather than payments per se) might be a reframing.

But maybe that’s like & subscribe with extra steps?

For me there is still no more exciting space than building platforms that support people and communities without intermediation. I’ve got the same feels I had when I was building self-hosted community spaces with Elgg in 2004. The promise has been here for a long time. #protocolsforpublishers

Here is @ruperts.world writing @unternet.co about where the web is going and what we can do about it.

See you in NYC in August. 🫡

Today is an invite only #ProtocolsForPublishers day at the absolutely gorgeous space at School for Visual Arts (SVA)

We’re meeting with a small group of publishers to dig deep on needs and opportunities.

We’ll report out next week on general themes.

Absolutely. We intentionally focused #ProtocolsForPublishers on how we can use tech to expand the capability space, to give more room for publishers to move, just to scope the discussion. We made sure to acknowledge the regulatory/legal/business and social efforts that ALSO need to happen.

Gonna hit up #ProtocolsForPublishers tonight. Who will I meet!?

In a world where many publishers are still learning to listen using protocols that were established decades ago, I wonder if, in addition to new protocols that disintermediate publishers and their audiences, we need to build new publishers who will take advantage of them. #protocolsforpublishers

#ProtocolsForPublishers coverage by @neeldhanesha.com for @niemanlab.org.

Guess we’ll have to plan some more events!

Was an inspiring group to be around, and enthusiastic energy from all participants.
