Trend of the Black-headed Gull, based on long-term PECBMS data, shows a moderate decline from 1990 onwards, and stable in the last 10 years. In searching for the underlying causes (for this species they seem to be multiple and some namely local), monitoring data always present the first step.

Since I am still behind on the #30DayChartChallenge, this is a combined chart for "negative" (day 16) and "birds" (day 17). Nothing fancy, but a sad indicator of how we keep treating our planet.

About 100 yrs ago it was super abundant (perhaps Top 3 along with House Sparrow and Skylark) in the Rhineland and was still common about 50 yrs ago.
In Europe PECBMS documents a decline of -59% since 1980.

New paper! Various ways to construct multi-species indicators result in similar trends of forest #birds, but geographical fine-tuning means better representation of the regional bird community.
