Microglia support endocannabinoid-dependent LTP and episodic memory.

Microglia depletion disrupted LTP and memory in mice—effects reversed by enhancing 2-AG signaling.

This is big, @fda.gov acknowledging that vaping addiction has become such a big problem that a treatment needs to be fast-tracked:

Smoking has long been known to negatively affect surgical outcomes. A new study demonstrates that non-tobacco nicotine products (e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches) do the same.
Non-tobacco nicotine dependence increases risk of complications following lumbar spine decompression and fusion

There's probably nothing more influential or w/ more explanatory power in neurosci than attractors and more generally computations through population dynamics. In comparison, the level of evidence for fast plasticity being relevant for cognition is close to zero

It's more of a heckler than a debate
At #BernsteinConference heated debate on WM mechanisms. I love that this is still far to be settled!

trained RNNs from A.Compte aligns with fruitfly direction WM data from K.Nagel: it is persistent.

Large scale recording in macaque V1 in T.Moore Lab: it is not.

It would be fun to map the network of inter-field connections created by quote posts here.

For instance, here the chain starts with a psychologist describing how hard it is to operationalize "sleep"! It passes through comp. neurosci and is now being QTd by an info sci prof obsessed w/ benchmarks.+
Great point.

Benchmarking has become the name of the game in machine learning.

You can effectively add to or subtract from the definition of intelligence by introducing a new benchmark or critiquing an existing one, and convince a significant portion of the community that you have a valid point.
Incidentally, my personal favorite interpretation of advancements in computer science is that most of the progress we've made has been in defining the problems themselves. Many successes correlate to clearer definitions of what "good" means or abstracting the task away from weak definitions.

Reminded today how far some of Western pysch/ neurosci has yet to go to catch up with the world's contemplatives. I attended an online lecture on visual consciousness. It spoke of lag-times between the ocular registration of a stimulus and the conscious phenomenal experience of "seeing...."

A study by Bartels et al (J Neurosci) showed that decoding what colour one person was seeing also decode what another person was seeing. I haven’t read the study but it is a clever way of trying to find out if your blue is my blue. Not my expertise but worth expert discussion.
