Editor’s Pick: Brandon G. Roy et al. present a first report of a soilborne virus modifying both the RSA of a plant host and transmission by its dagger nematode via a single viral amino acid. Read the open access article: https://doi.org/10.1094/PHYTO-03-25-0105-R

☠️🥔 RESEARCH 🥔☠️

The potato immune receptor Gpa2 recognises the nematode effector GpRBP-1 in the cytoplasm, but the triggering of plant cell death depends on a balanced nucleocytoplasmic distribution in the cells - Zheng et al.

Will a #virus spillover into a new host species lead to dead-end infection or sustained #epidemic? This study uses a nematode-virus model to show that early #spillover traits, especially infection prevalence & shedding, are important predictors of viral persistence @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/3UCnZHp

An efficient beet severe curly top virus-based VIGS vector in Beta vulgaris
Sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) is one of the most important sugar crops worldwide. However, studies on sugar beet gene functions are still lagging compared to other crops due to the lack of an effectiv...

NEMATODE MONDAY: double trouble on yellow squash. Root knot nematode on roots, but also symptoms of an insect (aphid or whitefly) transmitted virus. Field symptoms make it appear to be virus induced, but RKN also involved. Lab tests will tell the true story #SON #Virus 🧪

COMPETITION

Dengue fever virus has 5 serotypes that compete for hosts. Primary infection with 1 makes further infection with another much more dangerous. So it’s a real killer competition!

@hylopsar @tomhouslay @HeidiKayDeidi That's right. The thing that is definitely a virus and not a fucking nematode.

@blakestacey Did I mention that when they actually show the shape of the virus, it's a nematode?
