i speak english, korean, spanish, and mandarin chinese. i know about translation. it costs a lot of energy to do, even if it "seems" frictionless because the system works well. but yeah, being multilingual does translate to being a lot smarter about systems architecture. i recommend it.

District presenters outlined a strategic-plan update that sets a 5-year goal to increase graduates proficient in multiple languages (baseline 10.25%; proposed 12% target) and a Year 1 attendance benchmark to raise persistently present students to 73% (baseline 70.5%), with new metrics, schoolwide plans and a partnership with Attendance Works.

When you go to Europe most people speak multiple languages fluently. Here it's frowned upon. Many nations have more than one national language even Canada. I mean look at Belgium it's a multilingual country and it's tiny it's probably the size of Maryland.
