A group of residents in the East Bay of #GreaterSudbury's Long Lake has submitted a petition to CGS, asking that #WakeBoats be barred from their part of the lake. One woman with whom I spoke said she has had to spend $$$ to keep her home from slipping into LL.

#GreaterSudbury's #DalronHomes has gotten the go-ahead to build 26 rowhomes in the Vintage Green subdivision, near Algonquin Rd. Fifteen single-family homes were planned, but this better reflects the city's official plan and growth plan for #NorthernOntario.

It was an honour to attend this event on Friday at TDS. #GreaterSudbury's #Jewish community held a menorah-lighting ceremony to commemorate the 8d festival of lights. Reps from the community say lighting the #menorah is an act of courage and resilience.

The city's operations cmte heard this week that #GreaterSudbury's urban #trees are doing well. We've achieved 33% canopy cover - incredible, considering the industrial mess that was our landscape 50y ago - and it is healthy. CGS is aiming for 40% coverage.

#GreaterSudbury's #CambrianCollege is looking into allegations a senior employee faked #Indigenous identity. Allegations have surfaced on social media that Bradie Grainger is a #Pretendian. Grainger has not commented, despite several attempts to reach them.

#CLAC, the #union that represents #GreaterSudbury's #VolunteerFirefighters, says it is "very disappointed" to learn council has voted to close 3 VFF halls in Copper Cliff, Val Caron and Falconbridge. The closures will save CGS $74K annually. 20 VFFs affected.

#Toronto artist Travis Myers teamed up w #Skittles to restore #GreaterSudbury's #PrideFlag crosswalk on Minto St, just in time for #PrideWeek. The mural was painted in July 2024 and defaced in Aug. It was repainted, but post-winter it was in need of repairs.

Jesse Oshell, #GreaterSudbury's deputy fire chief, told councillors last month the number of #fire-related calls in CGS has risen significantly over the past yr. Oshell also told committee members CGS continues to bolster its numbers while focusing on training.

#GreaterSudbury's ops cmte will vote next wk on 3 resolutions that could alter #traffic on MR80. Staff recommend 2 speed reductions and the installation of a pedestrian crossover near the new elementary school. They say #speeding is a major problem in the area.

#GreaterSudbury's #HARTHub, a place to help folks recover from addiction and mental health woes, is 2+ months behind schedule. The prgm will be part of #LorraineSt #TransitionalHousing project, which is delayed due to construction problems. By July, CGS says.

Council voted Tues to spend $17M to remediate a part of #JunctionCreek btwn downtown and Perreault St in #GreaterSudbury's #FlourMill. From what I understood, CGS will dig under the creek to make it deeper, allowing it to absorb more H20 following heavy rains.

Ward 5 Coun. Mike Parent wants to know more about how to address fallen headstones at one of #GreaterSudbury's largest cemeteries.
Ward 5 Coun. Mike Parent won a motion Monday seeking a staff report on how to address fallen and deteriorated #headstones at the #LasalleCemetery. It's been a problem for years, but soil conditions are poor, which has caused many monuments to topple. #RIP

#GreaterSudbury's volunteer firefighters are clashing w admin over a radio system CGS will intro. CLAC, the VFF union, filed a grievance w the MOL. CGS says the two systems are nearly the same. CGS has been doing training, but still placed 20 VFFs on leave.

The candidates from the three primary political parties, from both of #GreaterSudbury's ridings, met Friday for an all-candidates event (not really a debate). The federal election takes place April 28.
