Happy #FossilFriday! These are tail vertebrae of the duck-billed #dinosaur #Hypacrosaurus (#MOR549). The arrows highlight #pathologies (injuries). This week, a new study by Bertozzo et al., suggests these pathologies may be caused by mating, indicating this dinosaur is a female.

For #FossilFriday here is a Theropod dinosaur footprint from the Kayenta Formation. We found 3 Dino trackways while we were on our 17-day backpacking trip. This was the best preserved footprint of the ones we found.

Happy #FossilFriday from the Petrified Forest!
The “PEFO” is a field full of Triassic age petrified trees in Arizona. It formed when a river flooded and fallen trees were filled with elements like iron, carbon, and manganese.

#FossilFriday This morning we were shown a Ruby Ranch wood site preserving insect frass (poop). More importantly the site looks like extremely rare pollen site near Aptian-Albian boundary...fingers crossed. Very promising..screen wash for micros..too... @utahpaleo-ufop.bsky.social

SCORE!!!! #FossilFriday Today; checking out the basal Cedar Mt ferrugenous paleosol, Berriasian. Josh Lively walked up on a bunch of bones weathering out. Nice polacanthine 2nd cervical spine, iguanodont jaw & ungual. Enough material to name polacanthine n. Sp. C. @utahpaleo-ufop.bsky.social

#FossilFriday: The pelycosaur Dimetrodon, from the Lower Permian of North America. Dimetrodon is frequently thought to be a dinosaur, when it fact it is more closely related to humans than dinosaurs!

It's a #GarWeek #FossilFriday! Here's some of the ganoid scales off of gar that we routinely find when scouting in the Hell Creek. So far only 1 complete gar skeleton has been found in the HCF, and I found it a full 10 years before I found my first Tyrannosaurus.

What's up, butterflies? Is it #FossilFriday yet? ⚒️🧪
Since there was a nice piece on brachiopod encrustation earlier today, I thought we'd revisit an old classic: the D shaped strophomenid Rafinesquina, a common element of late Ordovician assemblages. Its life orientation is somewhat controversial.

We're back at the Otley Science Festival!
This year, we're unjumbling the bones of Pholiderpeton, Bradford's Carboniferous swamp monster!
Come along on Saturday 15th from 10:00 to the Otley Courthouse and see if you can make head or tail out of these bones!
