Private pay healthcare, if not currently illegal, ought to be made so. This is Smitty and the UCPee trying to wedge in USA-style HMOs into Canadian healthcare. Once they have a foot in the door in AB they can make a case for national inclusion.

The private system steals doctors from the public system causing wait times to get longer

Alberta already has a doctor shortage, imagine how bad it would be if a significant portion of them left to work privately
