Wayfair (W) absolutely crushed earnings this morning. They talked about AI...a lot on their call. Feel free to discount this but there are a number of examples from management here where management thinks AI is directly increasing revenue and lowering cost. These snippets are ~1/2 of the comments.
First and most importantly, we are reinventing the customer journey. We are embedding AI into our core processes to make them faster and more efficient, and have provided generative AI tools to every employee. This allows us to deliver for our customers with a level of excellence that is difficult to replicate. Third, we are powering our platform and ecosystem. We are building tools that make Wayfair the best possible partner for our suppliers, and are ensuring our catalog is seamlessly integrated into the next generation of AI-driven commerce. Let me walk you through each of these. Starting with the customer, we are using generative AI to make the shopping journey more intuitive and personal than ever before. We think about this as an AI-powered growth flywheel, to inspire, engage, learn, and personalize. It all starts with inspiration, and we're using generative AI in multiple ways to help customers discover products they'll love. We developed Muse, our proprietary AI-powered inspiration and discovery engine to create shoppable, photorealistic room scenes to capture the attention of low-intent customers and spark discovery. Muse offers a visual browsing experience entirely powered by generative AI. We then incorporate learnings from Muse into our new Discover tab in our app, offering an endless look-based shopping experience that turns inspiration directly into action, delivering a measurable lift in conversion, as well as visit duration for customers that engage with the tab. In parallel, we're using generative AI to understand what inspires our customers beyond just their searches and clicks. Our new interest-based carousels are driving incremental revenue uplift by matching product to every customer's lifestyle and aesthetic, with contextual signals like location and weather coming soon to enhance personalization. Once a customer is inspired, we engage them with a suite of AI-powered tools that builds confidence and removes friction from their journey. We've evolved our on-site search to be more intuitive, using a sophisticated LLM to move beyond traditional keyword matching. This allows us to interpret what a customer is looking for with far greater nuance, connecting to the right products with greater precision. For shoppers who have picture, but not the words, our visual search allows them to simply upload or snap a photo and instantly find similar products from our catalog, turning real world inspiration into a shoppable reality. When customers have specific questions, our AI powered assistant provides instant reliable answers by drawing directly from product specifications and reviews. These interactions feed our ability to learn and ultimately to personalize. This is where we combine AI scale with our unique home expertise. We had our own interior designers annotate nuance style pairings, then used LLMs to scale this understanding across our entire catalog. The results are compelling. Customers who see these designer-quality personalized recommendations are a third more likely to save, add to cart, or order products, reflecting a much higher confidence in our selections. This brings me to our second pillar, supercharging our operations and our teams. A core part of our operational excellence is the quality of our product catalog itself. We are using generative AI at scale to improve the accuracy, consistency, and completeness of our product information. This makes our catalog more reliable for customers and simplifies the management process for our suppliers. This catalog enrichment is already delivering an impactful lift in add to cart rates. At the same time, we are using AI to automatically detect and process difficult items, which keeps the customer experience clean and is projected to reduce the cost of this review process by three-quarters. With a more reliable catalog as our foundation, we deliver superior customer service. We recognize that the unique nature of our category, which involves high consideration and complex orders, requires a sophisticated approach to service. For immediate 24/7 resolutions on common inquiries, we use fully autonomous conversational AI agents. For the more nuanced situations that benefit from human expertise, we've equipped our associates with a powerful real-time AI co-pilot which combines several advanced capabilities.

It's an intriguing idea that has been met with some enthusiasm—and skepticism. 51&-a name the group is announcing today—was initially cofounded in early 2025 by Jodi Neuhauser, a branding specialist and founder of fertility company Ovaterra, and Candace McDonald, a former alternative health activist who recently became the chief growth officer at "clean beauty" wellness company Wonderus, which promises "non- toxic alternatives to hypochlorous acid and benzoyl peroxide." McDonald had also been the CEO and board member of a PAC that supported Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Make America Healthy Again, or MAHA, movement. In that role, she oversaw the campaign behind the now-secretary of health's Super Bowl ad for his presidential run as an independent, according to her LinkedIn profile. Shortly before 51&'s public launch, however, McDonald stepped down from the organization. Neuhauser is continuing on with 51&'s lofty goals: building a $900 million bipartisan movement, borrowing from a well-established business model for special interest groups, such as the AARP and even the National Rifle Association (NRA). At the heart of the model is a for-profit public benefit corporation-a "topco”—that will earn most of its revenues from membership fees. For $100 per year, women will have access to planned celebrity-studded women's health talks, networking opportunities, a newsletter, and more. The goal is to attract 1 million members b… Like those popular brands, 51& will not be political. Neuhauser explains that she hopes to bring a fractured community together to attack the obstacles that have hindered efforts to advance research and policies for women, such as a lack of data or lower insurer reimbursement rates for women's medical procedures. Women's health includes more than reproductive health, from autoimmune diseases to cardiology. And the bigger issues are systemic, not political, she argues. 51&'s board will allocate revenues within a larger ecosystem, which includes an affiliated PAC, the Women's Health PAC, and a nonprofit that will fund other health research and policy groups. Crucially, the PAC has and will continue to back both Republican and Democratic lawmakers focused on women's health issues, and none of the funds will support advocacy or policy research for or against abortion. Neuhauser argues that the intense politics around abortion- "a third rail in D.C.," she calls it-have blocked progress in women's health. Several women founders have privately supported the idea. But Neuhauser has also found that some "ideologically pure" people struggle with the strategy. She has heard comments like, "I don't understand how you can be a women's health organization and donate to Republicans,"" she recalls. People on both sides of the abortion issue have said: "I love what you're doing, but abortion is so core to who I am that I can't get behind this because you're supporting the other side."" Abstract. Cryptocurrencies have gained high popularity in recent years, with over 9000 of them, including major ones such as Bitcoin and Ether. Each cryptocurrency is implemented on one blockchain or over several such networks. Recently, various technologies known as blockchain interoperability have been developed to connect these different blockchains and create an interconnected blockchain ecosystem. This paper aims to provide insights on the blockchain ecosystem and the connection between blockchains that we refer to as the interoperability graph. Our approach is based on the analysis of the correlation between cryptocurrencies implemented over the different blockchains. We examine over 4800 cryptocurrencies implemented on 76 blockchains and their daily prices over a year. This experimental study has potential implications for decentralized finance (DeFi), including portfolio investment strategies and risk management.

This article provides an in-depth look at the Gates Foundation’s open access (OA) policy journey as 2025 marks a decade of OA policy for the foundation. There have been two iterations of the policy – the original version that was launched in 2015 with a focus on gold OA, and which was then adapted in 2021 to reflect the Plan S principles, including limitations for publisher payments based on journal type and repository deposits. Now, in response to the ever-evolving needs of the scholarly ecosystem, the foundation is updating its policy again to strive for broader impact and to support practices that drive greater inclusion of scientists around the world, particularly those from low- and middle-income countries. This article will provide a deep dive into the decisions and data used to define a more equitable approach to dissemination of the research funded by the foundation.

We are currently seeking a MSc domestic student (i.e. Canadian citizen or permanent resident). The project will focus on developing and testing novel stream biomonitoring methods incorporating eDNA to assay community membership from microbes to fish. These rapid bioassessment techniques will be tested against traditional approaches in their ability to produce functional, community and multitrophic indicators of ecosystem integrity and biodiversity along a gradient of impact recovery. The student will be hosted at Laurentian University (Dr. Brie Edwards) and co-supervised by Dr. Erik Emilson (Natural Resources Canada). The advisory committee for the project will also include PIs from more than a single institution, and will reflect the collaborative, team-based approach to the research, both in lab and field environments. Additional project collaborators are located at Queen's, Laurier, Ontario Tech and Acadia universities, and in MNR and MECP. Field work will begin in Spring of 2025 and will be conducted in the Sudbury area. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in aquatic ecology and an interest in benthic bioindicators, molecular techniques, and population and community responses to environmental change. Quantitative skills in statistical analysis are desired but can be provided through training programs at the respective institutions. Interested students should send a CV, cover letter expressing interest and relevant skills, as well as a copy of unofficial transcripts to Brie Edwards (bedwards2@laurentian.ca). Please include “CRADLES graduate interest” as the subject line. Review of applications will occur as they are received, but only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Absolutely, teaching critical thinking to young people is essential. I spent 19 years writing Junior Skeptic and science-based children’s books as a contribution to that project. But the information ecosystem is so vast and polluted, so manipulated by bad actors, that no one approach seems adequate

So, to be clear, this massive corporation will start paying people to use their model.

But they refuse to pay any of the people whose data and creative output they stole to build their model in the first place - and claim doing so would make their entire company economically unfeasible.

In a submission to the House of Lords communications and digital select committee, OpenAI said it could not train large language models such as its GPT-4 model – the technology behind ChatGPT – without access to copyrighted work. “Because copyright today covers virtually every sort of human expression – including blogposts, photographs, forum posts, scraps of software code, and government documents – it would be impossible to train today’s leading AI models without using copyrighted materials,” said OpenAI in its submission, first reported by the Telegraph.
