#EV-based
Tesla has total assets of 122 billion. It has total revenue of 97 billion. It has operating income of 7.1 billion.

It has "market value" of one trillion based on, a lot of excitable and not accurate estimates about how the company will perform. It's in the process of losing the EV battle.

This usually has been the main argument of the anti-EV populus. And there is a small point to it, of course. A country, where majority of ⚡️ is coal or oil based production, the EVs are less clean. But it has been still proven, that even in that case, EVs are cleaner.

Theory: really successful innovations were based much more on insights into consumer demand than technological supply/possibility. E.g.:
- punters would buy an EV if it were cool enough
- people will trust online shopping
- a computer in every house
- they'll provide social media content for free 1/
My own guess is that this Optimus robot is to Musk what the Metaverse is to Zuckerberg, but plenty of people much richer than me seem to think differently- on.ft.com/3LpFJV3

A guy I know in regional Western Australia sold his petrol SUV which got 7 litres/100 km and bought a hybrid based on the logic you've described. Now he gets 7.5 litres per 100 km.
Slow clap.
Over a 300,000 km lifespan, an EV is always going to come out in front.

And not a significant word or new ideas for the critically endangered automotive sector. Only one reference to September's plan to axe the EV mandate, as requested by US-based EV laggards. Lots of automation, no automotive.

If your government systematically destroys the infrastructure required what do you expect?

Based on performance an EV is basically better. You're left with ideas of the 'character' and 'charm' of boiling oil and water, repetitive explosions, noise, smell and general lack of torque and efficiency.

You've read the paper, now read the op-ed.

Piece in Die Zeit by Nils, Lucas and myself based on our report on how to coordinate buy-European EV subsidies - which by the way owes a lot to the intellectually always generous Brad Setser (some Americans still like Europe).

Depends when you bought and why I suppose. If you bought pre-2024 and happy with "a good EV company which also sells battery tech and explores related technology" with a value that reflects that, then yes. If you bought it as an inflated memestock almost entirely based on Musk's claptrap, oh dear.

In which I continue to ask, because these blogs so flippantly transition between U.S. myopic and faux global based on their specific contributor's bias and intent... is this a global blog?

Is GM even going to surpass Ford globally on EV sales this year? U.S. automotive press headlines so lazy.

It's a whole thing with people owning petrol based farm equipment and seeing the rise of EV as some kind of battle.

Should have framed it as a luxury not a practicality, then they might want it.

b) The toolbox: the EU now uses border adjustments (carbon, foreign-subsidies rules, EV probes). Not labour tariffs but they normalize non-classic measures.
c) law vs rhetoric. In WTO law, dumping = price discrimination, not low wages. A labour-based tariff would be novel and contentious.
