This is like saying "we're replacing banks with DraftKings", any journalists treating it seriously and not screaming their heads off about how totally deranged it is should be sent to the gulag
… Sen. Rick Scott says he’ll draft a health care bill based on Trump’s morning Truth Social post. Says his plan is to give people health savings accounts and “let them buy the health care they want.” To say I have questions would be an understatement.

The prop bet scandal that hit MLB and the Cleveland Guardians is a bright red flashing warning siren that we need to end legal sports gambling, and especially apps like DraftKings.
The damage they can do to the games we love is immense, and the young men the apps prey upon are drowning.

I cannot stand sports betting. 🤦🏻♀️
Apps like FanDual, DraftKings, BetMGM and others are so fucking annoying, especially when shit like this happens.

Breaking news per Jeff Passan: “Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted by prosecutors in Brooklyn on a host of charges related to a scheme to rig bets on pitches thrown in MLB games. Ortiz was arrested in Boston earlier today. Clase is not currently in custody”

And I’ll say this the sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel are largely the ones catching this stuff and flagging it to authorities
The leagues it appears would rather turn a blind eye to it and take the money

They have a decent enough UI, and their promotions are fine. The problem for any sportsbook in the US is Draftkings and Fanduel just have a huge market share (I know a couple years ago they had like 70% of it)

one problem w/so many analogies is that we intuitively gravitate to useful stuff; there's no easy shorthand for something as obviously counterproductive and disastrous that still tracks. it feels more like saying "DraftKings is collaborating with Cal to register undergrads to bet on course outcomes"
“It’s not a partnership…If you switch out the product, we would never say, ‘Xerox is collaborating with San Francisco State to offer photocopiers to all the members of its community.’”

Its been said by a million different people but it's so strange to me that we will go from talking about Terry Rozier and Chauncey Billups being charged with separate gambling charges. And then 5 minutes later have a DraftKings segment. Like hello??

It is genuinely bananas to me that FanDuel and DraftKings and the like can just run ads on tv and streaming. Like, for some reason, I thought they were already illegal in the past? There's a reason gambling is illegal in most places - the same should be true of *at LEAST* advertising.
I do think we have a pretty good chance of turning gambling into a genuine popular moral crusade 19th century style, because it's becoming a social evil that's destroying young men's lives in particular but also making sports coverage really shit.
Almost every major news story this week is about how the entire economy is now gambling, scams, bribes and theft.

I had a bunch riding on “underground mafia poker ring” news on DraftKings so I’m making out like a bandit today!

At first I thought this made Pritzker extremely relatable, given how many people in Illinois now have depressing FanDuel and DraftKings addictions bankrupting them thanks to the law he and IL Dems passed. But then I was like, "oh wait, he WINS money? Everyone I know loses theirs!"
Gov. JB Pritzker reported $1.4 million in gambling income last year, from "casino winnings."
I don't gamble. How much do you have to bet to win that much? How does that even happen? Could have been a sports book inside a casino? One big bet? Many small bets? I don't even know. So many questions.

Gov. JB Pritzker and his wife report $10.3 million in taxable income — $1.4 million in gambling winnings
Five months before the Democratic primary, Gov. JB Pritzker released partial tax records showing $10.3 million in taxable income — including $1.4 million in income from gambling.

They should allow betting on politics with those gambling apps like FanDuel and DraftKings, because I want to see a Barstool bro posting to a Congressperson "You couldn't have had one more cloture vote??? You cost me $1,500 you lazy piece of shit!!! Do not run for reelection, you suck."

It’s not just me noticing how quickly America embraced and normalized gambling, right? Like half the commercials on Pluto TV now are for a FanDuel/DraftKings thing or some casino app that pinky swears you can win real money. It’s weird considering how vilified it was here for years.

Meanwhile, DraftKings launch Electric Poker, directly in the casino lobby, something we've seen Unibet and PokerStars do with their Hexapro, casino sites like Gamesys/Virgin do with their "poker in casino" games.

If you made a bet on DraftKings like they were advertising before the race to do for a 10/28/4 trifecta, do you have to return your money? I sure would try my best not to.
