#DivestOS
/e/ substantially rolls back the privacy and security model compared to AOSP, far more than LineageOS. There are also other operating systems doing what they can to patch a small portion of Linux kernel vulnerabilities and aren't misleading users about what's provided. DivestOS was doing it before.

📰 DivestOS ROM shuts after ten years

💬 Sentiment: Nostalgic concern 😕. Vibe: Mixed feelings about project shutdowns; some desire better alerts for interesting projects.

As mentioned elsewhere DivestOS which provided a next best effort alternative for non GrapheneOS supported devices, announced recently it has received it's last update. Ceasing development and deprecating the project, due to lack of funding.

If using an End of Life device already then to a degree yes although to a lesser one than is ideal.

However even with that said, moving those devices from DivestOS to LineageOS, /e/OS or CalyxOS would mean giving up a bunch of privacy and security features they ported from GrapheneOS.

Autant le gouvernement on en attendait rien, autant la fin de #DivestOS et donc de #mull ça c'est triste

Prior to their focus on attacking GrapheneOS, /e/OS focused on attacking DivestOS. The dishonest attacks and harassment directed towards DivestOS made it a complete hell for the developers. It heavily contributed to DivestOS being discontinued. This is how many companies in this space operate.

Just be mindful that DivestOS has been deprecated.

DivestOS is a dead project. It was discontinued. LineageOS is a hobbyist OS not maintaining the basic privacy and security model. Neither CalyxOS or LineageOS provides proper privacy or security patches. They're conflating them as all being privacy and security focused options. That's not correct.

i just want divestos and its (or what it had, rip) little tinkerings and bonus features to make _most_ devices as secure as possible without making too many sacrifices for user control.

F-droidのMullブラウザはAvastにスパイウェアと判定されているのか?
だから、DivestOS MobileのMullブラウザの更新で1度目はスパイウェアの疑いありと判定があり、2度目はクリアの判定なのかな。

Damn divestos survived for 10 years? Sad they died though

DivestOS inherited a lot of security and stability regressions from LineageOS. It also meant they ended up with a lot of questionable features they didn't really want. They ported over a small subset of GrapheneOS privacy and security features. A newer project could port current GrapheneOS instead.

Update everything on your phone, (degoogled) Android (f.e. DivestOS) edition:
1: go into F-droid
2: check app-updates
3: download all updates
4a: confirm app-update
4b: repeat 4a for every single app

DivestOS didn't have that option initially and was stuck on the path they chose since many of the devices they supported needed it. It didn't end up going past Android 13 or supporting more recent devices. A project extending the life of devices recently reaching end-of-life can just rely on Treble.

I am shocked to hear about the shutdown of DivestOS: https://divestos.org/pages/news#end.

I have been using it for the last two years, can someone recommend an alternative besides Lineage OS?
