#Disinformation/Democracy
The BBC is worth defending. Without BBC News, in a world increasingly at the mercy of AI and mis and disinformation, and with Elon Musk presiding over X, democracy in Britain would be challenged even more than it already is.

The EU is built on the foundation of democracy. 🇪🇺

But democracy needs care and renewal, especially when 70% of Europeans fear foreign interference in elections.

Today we present the European Democracy Shield and the EU Strategy for Civil Society.

The European Democracy Shield is designed to strengthen and support robust, resilient democratic systems.

It'll reinforce Europe’s ability to detect and respond to disinformation and foreign interference, support free and fair elections, and protect independent media.

A man who can’t open his mouth without spewing mis & disinformation had a hissy fit over a foolish edit in a programme about his proven undermining of US democracy.

His hypocrisy & the cynicism of the right wing media establishment leveraging the situation for their own benefit, is breathtaking.

The EU plans to establish a Centre for Democratic Resilience to combat disinformation from Russia and other authoritarian regimes, uniting experts across member and candidate countries as part of Ursula von der Leyen’s proposed “democracy shield.”

The edit of the Trump speech was silly.

Yet, substantively, Trump did spray the Jan 6 context with radical disinformation and stood by as violence erupted.

Sloppy of the BBC to allow a "threat to democracy" story to become a "BBC editorial process" story. That's it.

11/12/25 Here’s Your Daily Disinformation Detox Reminder:Today, use social media to connect w/ your community, participate in public discourse, & advocate for change. Be wary of claims that promote hate speech or that undermine democracy. Remember, your voice matters, & social media can amplify it.

Like Hitler, Trump spews hatred, fear, and disinformation—promising revenge & retribution. He seeks to terminate the U.S. Constitution, corrupt the DOJ to indict any/all opponents, throw people in jail who disagree with him, and shut down all fact-based journalism—ending democracy & the rule of law.

If anyone in this country, and indeed, the world, wants to look for the greatest danger of our age to our freedom and democracy, then look no further than the billionaire owned media which fuels hate and discord through lies and disinformation to ultimately line their own pockets

Let’s all thank Rupert Murdoch for destroying our democracy with lies and disinformation.

Another excellent piece of writing that has many important points, one quote which stands out in my mind .. "we must commit ourselves to combating the single deadliest threat to our democracy and civil society: misinformation and disinformation." Sums it all up for me.

#POLITKOLUMNE: Disinformation remains one of the most underestimated threats to democracy.

But there is something we can do: a simple program (4x90min) by @priyadarshi-amar.bsky.social has proven highly effective in strengthening information and media literacy www.derbund.ch/desinformati...

EU leaders "are not being honest with us, and we are all paying the price. If Democracy Shield cannot accurately describe the threat we are facing, then there is no way it can defend us from the forces in America that are spreading disinformation on this continent with the goal of regime change"
A Commission official has admitted to Euractiv that President von der Leyen's office "softened" the #DemocracyShield text published today "so as not to upset the US".

Our leaders only want to talk about Russia. When it comes to disinformation, the EU's biggest threat is the one who cannot be named.
Can the EU's new Democracy Shield protect Europe from America?
It appears MAGA has successfully intimidated the Commission into defanging its new anti-disinformation tool proposed today.

Agree, 100%, Harry! I have been encouraged to see the UK turn back towards the EU, but ALL of Europe has a problem with the far-right, the global elites that support the far-right, as well as the Putin disinformation. We need a strong pro-democracy movement in Europe to counter this.

The Putin/Trump/Gop/Musk/Project2025 Fascists/NAZIS plan to DESTROY ALL TRUTH; thus, to DESTROY DEMOCRACY with AI VIDEOS. Democracy cannot survive without Truth. We know the corrupt Trump regime will NOT regulate ANY form of disinformation. BUT should USA survive these Fascists, AI MUST BE REGULATED

According to EU officials, Russia's hybrid attacks against Europe are aimed, among other things, at undermining democracy. Details are reported by The Guardian.

💬 A Centre for citizens

The recently announced Centre for Democratic Resilience should support this checklist, addressing the full spectrum of disinformation (internal and external), supporting research into democratic resilience and innovation, and bringing democracy closer to citizens.

Ideally we should expand the OSA to match the DSA 2/2
