Sergeant Wuthck in The Audacity 3 is modeled after a Noel Fielding character and I’m having a blast recording his lines because I’m inexplicably weirdly good at the Noel Fielding cockney hitcher voice.

The UK has a centuries old caste system where your family name, birthplace, and accent determines what class you REALLY are in.
You could have a Cockney accent and be a tech millionaire but still be looked down by the entitled, in-bred upper classes.
It's not about income. At all.

Err... It's already happened. I remember playing the GTA London expansion pack in c.1997. The cockney rhyming slang was poorly executed tbh.

Maybe but I guess there's like 40 British accents plus all the colonies. Maybe a cockney accent might drop a starting H but I wouldn't expect it to regularly happen in RP, or say Aus/NZ English

My mums side were definitely on the aspirational home counties shift.
East end (true cockney) > Tottenham > home counties > even further out
I see from watching a Taskmaster episode that that’s still ongoing.
Dad was Irish which is an odd one because it does work differently there.

Cor blimey, if it isn't everyone's favourite Cockney chimney sweep! This charming 1973 movie still from "Mary Poppins" shows Bert greeting the titular nanny with her charges. Chim Chim Cher-ee indeed!

Turns out following coppers around saying, “Penny for the Guy, guv?” In a bad Cockney accent can get you deported.

A friend's dad yesterday identified me as 'the cockney academic from the University of Southampton'. I'm an East Londoner by (my dad's) family, by long-time residence and by inclination (COYI), but not by birth, as you can't hear Bow Bells from Tooting, where I was born. (1/2)

The Amazon prime “007: road to a million” reality TV contest was a delight to behold. Two cockney brothers (“The Bone Brothers”) should both have been signed up for the next movie immediately.

It’s not just that, I’m a straight cis white guy with 25 years spent in the NHS.
I’m dismissed either because I was ‘just a nurse’ or because of my cockney accent.
The NHS in general has all the ‘-ists’ and I hate it.
But it’s OK. Rainbow lanyards mean they’ve beaten homophobia

BBC comedy called Sun Trap, ran for one series in 2015 about a pair of cockney chancer types hiding out in Gran Canaria, very tongue in cheek style but very good natured at its core, personally found quite fun and funny but it absolutely bombed and didn't get a 2nd series.
