In a few days we shall have the anniversary of when we had multiple tornadoes at night in the middle of Winter.

Climate Change is real.

If you believe climate change is real, vaccines are safe and effective, women should have control of their bodies and reproductive health, no child should go to school hungry for anything but learning, and so on and so on — you can’t come here.

When you read these stories close the real id'ed problem is population growth and a lack of planning to accommodate that growth. Actual weather isn't the problem.https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/climate-change-threatens-asia-water-090457889.html

While I agree, I also think soccer writ large is dealing with climate change in real time. I think breaks will eventually be standard for summer leagues and WC, and perhaps not a small reason that MLS decided to switch to a winter schedule. Some of those games last summer were absolutely brutal

Americans aren't debating if climate change is real. The issue is that policymakers (in the US and also elsewhere) are not following what needs to be done to address climate change.

Note that China is building record numbers of coal-burning power plants, and their per capita emissions are rising.

While Americans debate if climate change is real, China installed more solar panels and wind turbines in 2024 than the rest of the world combined.

climate change is real
Politicians and TV hosts can deny climate change all they want but insurance companies know it's real

Climate change is real. It endangers people and wildlife. It destroys infrastructure.

Conservation is a solution. Resilient ecosystems protect people, wildlife, and the economy.

The examples are all around us:
Indonesia counts human cost as more climate change warnings sounded
Indonesia says 1,000 dead, some 1 million displaced from rains as report points at the threat posed by climate change.

Trans isn’t real. ADHD isn’t real. Autism isn’t real. Vaccines are dangerous.
Climate change is natural. Putin has a point. The earth is flat.

At what point in this scale do you wake up and smell the coffee?
The response to a complex world is not to deny its complexity but to identify solutions.

Indeed. It's not the AI itself that concerns me it's the was humans us and abuse it. What also concerns me is that it's impossible to recoup the planned investments in AI infrastructure so what's the real plan?
As for climate change, it's already too late. Not existential but big changes on the way!

Climate change is real and that doesn’t mean it won’t snow ever again.

It does mean we’ll get unseasonable weather like record snows we just got!

This was, of course, the ancient view of the Roman Republic.

For a modern republic on the one hand, elites must be accountable to The People but on the other hand elites kind of do need the power to say, 'no, we're not war criming today' or 'climate change is real' or 'plagues are bad.'

More generally, "climate change is a cover story for THEIR weather manipulation designed to destroy YOU, the REAL AMERICAN" (which is the basic gist of the conspiracies MTG espoused) absolutely predates the Wolfenstein reboot

That's rhetoric.

Until the big emitting nations get on board, Canada harming it's sovereignty by virtue of hurting it's economy is an unworkable idea.

I understand the threat of climate change, it's real, it's happening, but we need to focus on what we can control.

What's funny of course is that he's a fascist who seemingly hated Trump, another fascist, after a while because he calls him a maniac and a mob boss, and unlike the climate denying fascists he thinks climate change is both real and ultimately good for the planet and humanity.
December 7, 2025 at 11:53 PM
yea shit is extremely creepy. Just offhanded saying they can solve overpopulation (as if that's a real thing) with mass death by climate change. Scary to think there is almost certainly a ton of people that work in the fossil fuel industry or in Congress that think this way
December 7, 2025 at 11:41 PM
Well, yes! It's people who believe that their right to everything they have is cosmically earned if not bestowed, literally God-given, or that climate change is either not real or totally inconsequential (at least to them), or that it's real and it's nothing to worry about, maybe because of God.
We need to develop an understanding that climate denial is first and foremost ideological and not driven by the supposed ‘non-ideology’ of rational self-interest/greed
