#CellLine
I mean the very existance of the HeLa cellline is kinda creepy but the fact this was done without consent is uh... "I did not agree to volunteer for part of me to be subjected to eternal Experimentation"
Is a horror movie plot.

Cost disease is not an economic inevitability; it's a governance design choice. We built an economy optimized for: legal insulation, credentialed mediation, moral theater, & political patronage. Every "ethics board", "ESG framework", & "compliance audit" is another metastasis of the same cellline.

Found a nice "fake" twitter account for Mary Kubicek @marykubicekNHS, the lab assistant of George Otto Gey. It has been created by high school students studying the story of the HeLa #cellline

Information on the anatomical site where a #cellline has been sampled has been completely enhanced & is now linked to the UBERON (@uberanat) ontology. Cell type information has been also standardized & linked to the CL ontology. Currently we make use of 803 UBERON & 241 CL terms

A very significant milestone for the #Cellosaurus: there are now 10,000 papers that have cited one or more Cellosaurus #cellline Research Resource Identifiers (#RRID)

A new dog mammary gland carcinoma #cellline CMT-1: https://bmcvetres.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12917-023-03573-9 but there is already a CMT-1 cell line from dog and from same cancer. Another example how reviewers and publishers (here @BMC) fail to do their homework

#BehindCellLines #13: BRO #cellline https://www.cellosaurus.org/CVCL_7036 seems to have been established by Arnold Lockshin a US researcher who defected with his wife in 1986 to the USSR. More on this fascinating story:

Today we have reached 140,000 #cellline entries in the #Cellosaurus. When the database was started 10 years ago in February 2012 (with 6,800 entries) we never thought that the universe of cell lines was so big!

DSMZ @Leibniz_DSMZ_en has recently transitioned from using the 8 STR loci to 17 loci for human #cellline authentication. This means that for the next release of the #Cellosaurus we will have updated STR profiles for ~700 human cell lines
January 21, 2025 at 5:34 PM
We have ~75000 #cellline entries with 1 or more reference to a publication. 51800 with 1 ref, 11800 with 2, 4500:3, 2300:4, etc. The distribution has a very long tail: there are 35 entries with >50 ref. The current max is 110 ref. Who can guess what cell line this is?
January 21, 2025 at 5:34 PM
In release 41 we now have over 400,000 cross-references to 99 different resources in the #Cellosaurus. To that you need to add 435,000 links to genes, proteins, chemicals, diseases & species. So ~6 links to external sites per #cellline entry
January 21, 2025 at 5:34 PM
I already tweeted about weird statements in some #cellline patents, but the one below is a gem: they report the STR profile of a mouse cell line using human markers! (and it does not look as this is a contaminated cell line or if it is, the STR profile is not in the #Cellosaurus)
