What an evening.
Hearing my choral piece brought to life by the CBSO the soloists, and Chorus is something I will never forget.
Thank you to everyone who came. I feel truly touched. 🎶

Good morning Ash and good morning Wulferhampton. It’s the run up to Christmas so we’re out later to listen to CBSO and assorted choirs playing lovely music. I may indulge in a mug of warm gluhwein in honour of the season

I mean these people have to work with here, can not find a Cooper bar a younger woman on the CBSO about us

Good to see @nitinsawhney.bsky.social at Symphony Hall last night.

Along with the joy of the music in a remarkable evening, it was good to know that Nitin is recovering from his heart attack - and to hear his call for others of South Asian heritage to consider heart health.

It’s not exactly representative of my concerts (though is of me well enough), as mostly I go to CBSO concerts nowadays, but couldn’t decide on one to pick :) The fact I don’t actually remember any of these concerts doesn’t help either!

I'm looking forward to the first rehearsal of my new choral piece today!
I can’t wait to hear that big choir in the room. 🎶
What’s your favourite instrument in the orchestra?

Ooh, we’re getting a harpsichord as well as recorders. It’s Naples 1725 today at the CBSO.

I had the good fortune to be taken there over 40 years ago with colleagues from the CBSO. We then returned to Finlandia Hall to perform Sibelius 5 6 and 7 with Simon Rattle.

Victorian legislation states that unless the child is on a CBSO, they cannot accept a report of harm to 17 year olds

✨ Read this trending post from Culture | The Guardian 📖 📂 Category: Classical music,Culture,Music,City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra ✅ Main takeaway: SEpilius and Shostakovich shared a gift for lyrical storytelling, lending cohesion to this evening of musical narratives in Symphony Hall, from the light-hearted myths and legends of Finland to the customary pronouncements of the Soviet composer's final symphony.

I doubt Vanska will be asked to return to Birmingham any time soon as the CBSO musicians fill out an appraisal form for visiting conductors. 🙄

Lefanu’s Columbia Falls is a major orchestral work that exemplifies her early mature style—textural, expansive, & deeply evocative. It was commissioned by the Feeney Trust for the CBSO & takes its name from a remote village in Maine, USA, where LeFanu began composing it during the summer of 1974.

“Bassoons, Sah! Thousands of ‘em!” Well, three. Four if you count the contrabassoon. Packed house for a CBSO all-bassoon recital today. The players sway and dip with the music, cradling their bassoons as though they’re dancing with them.

#ClassicalMusic Edward Gardner and the CBSO wrap their Schubert cycle (Vol. 4) with a vivid 'Great' C major (No. 9) — brisk, fresh, with punchy timpani and characterful winds. The surprise: Mary Bevan shines in orchestral songs by Britten, Berlioz, Brahms, Reger. Heard it yet? #Schubert #CBSO

Have to admit to not being too familiar with her. I’ll give her a listen.

I’m a Janet Baker fan for her Mahler 2 with Rattle/CBSO (outstanding version all round) and any Elgar she’s recorded.

#ClassicalMusic Phones disrupted a CBSO concert with Isata Kanneh-Mason (Rach 3), sparking debate. CBSO policy: silent mode; no photos/videos during performance; program notes ok; photos/videos only in applause. Sensible nuance or distraction? Chime in. #LiveMusic #AudienceEtiquette
