more practical studies: trying recreating some ff14 ability icons

idk the team's workflow exactly so a lot of this was me fumbling around trying to mimic their geometric shapes and blendmodes.. before saying fuck it and just painting stuff instead. theyre only thumbnails, technique doesnt matter

The layers of the knotted and nubbed Base Shaft of the inadra has been recreated in Substance Painter

took me a whole day to match the look of the shaft!

substance's blendmodes etc. are so different, it takes extra time to keep parity of all layer's visual result!

Instead of working on something useful, I overengineered gradient text by messing with shaders. For science.

(The better way to do this would be to use blendmodes and draw_rectangle_color.)

New game ticking along. Now I have street lamps that light the area below them, courtesy of my new BlendModes. So I`m entering the Victoria era. It`s tough playing catch-up.
My smoke effects currently only work in Release mode, not in Debug mode, so there`s that to fix...

Honestly the biggest hiccup I ran into when i made my switch was not knowing that a folder that had layers with a variety of blendmodes needed to be set to the "Through" blendmode or else the "normal" blend mode of the folder would supersede whatever was inside

Regarding bump maps -> transparency, I'm intrigued but as I haven't actually applied bump mapping yet, I don't think I can follow you here, but I could it be something about setting the blendmodes in an unorthodox way?
Would it be okay for me to ask you about this again at some later time?

All my gardening chores have been done so I treated myself to an hour in photoshop, playing with my textures, grass brushes and my many bird brushes. Experimenting with blendmodes and colour ❤️ I love being creative ❤️

It's a resource based implementation, running on the CPU as async tile-based rendering. Every layer can be blended with different blendmodes, opacity and a opacity mask texture. It has a dynamic resolution and can assign its result to a material automatically.

I've taken steps to help the texture the "canvas" involving poisson disc sampling and blendmodes.

I find interesting combinations of variations described in the appendix of the draves paper and play with parameters until I find neat stuff.

Ty! A large amount of our UI was made using either the "Alpha Composite" or "Additive" blendmodes, and core elements are split into separate widgets that are then placed into a main HUD widget. The statusbar and class guage that follow the player are just screen aligned Widget Components.

Then i added 2 knobs around the circle for saturation and alpha. and with time it's got eye-drop thing, blendModes selector and a palette with complimentary, tetradic and triadic hue picks (which i enjoy using).
