Crow and Tori have a bad first day on the farm in my new thriller (currently FAR AS THE CROW FLIES - but tomorrow who knows. I'm in need of a title).

Just got a Shore recommend so chuffed about that, though there's still work to do.

INT. WHITE CARAVAN - MINI-GALLEY - DAY ...CRACK (O.S.) Tori cowers behind the counter. She forces herself to her feet, steps hesitantly towards the door. THWACK. Nope. She hunkers down - covers her ears - closes her eyes. Outside, hard blows rain down. A metallic BANG (O.S.). Tori’s eyes flick open. She holds her breath. Dusty sunlight reaches the floor near her feet. A body SMACKS (O.S.) onto the caravan floor. The door SLAMS (O.S.) shut. The latch falls. A loud CLANG (O.S.). A raspy indrawn breath. (O.S.). Another. Window shutters BANG closed. The skylight’s dim light the sole light. A bolt SCRAPES home. EXT. FARM - WHITE CARAVAN - DAY Kyle THUMPS the caravan wall hard. Once... twice... adrenaline drains away. KYLE Shit... Oh shit. I’m so fucked. He looks around. No one’s seen. He stuffs scattered tools into the tool box - retrieves Crow’s broken phone. Forces himself to relax. KYLE No. No it’s fine. You saw a chance. You can work this. Get rid of him - tell Joe he quit. It’s all fine. Kyle wants to believe it. He rides off, electric quad bike eerily quiet - the caravan door barred by a sturdy crowbar. INT. WHITE CARAVAN - MINI-GALLEY - DAY Ragged breathing inside. Silence outside. Tori peeks out around the counter. There’s Crow, sprawled on the floor between the beds. Shades on askew. Face bloody. TORI Crow? No answer. She heads into the... SLEEPING AREA - CONTINUOUS Crouches beside Crow - hears bubbly, raspy breathing. Crow groans - stirs. Tori keeps her voice low. TORI You ok? Sorry. Stupid question. Here. Let me - She reaches for Crow’s shades - Crow stops her. CROW Don’t. Tori reaches for her phone. Stupid. It’s not there. Whispers - TORI Where’s your phone? Still dazed, Crow concentrates. Winces, reaches into... an empty pocket. Shakes their head. That hurts too. TORI Fuck. Tori listens at the door. Nothing. She lifts the latch - pushes. It moves a hair - stops. She winds up to bodyslam it. CROW You’ll just hurt yourself. She SLAMS into the door anyway. Crow’s right. She yells, loud as she can - beats on the door. Unnaturally calm, Crow watches from the floor. TORI Help! Let us out! Help! (to Crow) C’mon - shout! We need help. CROW What help? There’s no help. Defeated, Tori slumps against the door. TORI There was me. I should’ve helped.

DR. ROBERTS (50s), her therapist, sits in an identical chair across a glass coffee table. She prides herself on a casual approach to therapy, prefers loungewear to business attire. She leans forward with head tilted, absorbing Vivian's words. Vivian But it's stupid. It's like my body just wants to shut down anytime something happens that's... I don't know... DR. ROBERTS Are you doing your breathing exercises? Vivian Yeah, but honestly, I'd hoped the drugs would do more to help. DR. ROBERTS They will, but you have to keep taking them and doing the breathing exercises. You're teaching your body how to manage stress in a new way. It takes time. Vivian grumbles, slumps in her chair. DR. ROBERTS What else is on your mind? Vivian I don't know... I just hate how people treat me now. DR. ROBERTS What people? VIVIAN You know. People online, people at the fucking hardware store... they're all so mad at me, like I'm the reason she killed herself... it's frustrating. You can't reason with them. DR. ROBERTS You can't control what others think about you, only how you react. Vivian Easy for you to say. When's the last time someone called you a murderer? DR. ROBERTS How are things with Devon? I notice you don't talk about him much anymore. Vivian He's fine. Busy. He's launching this new show to distance himself from the old one. It's a good thing. DR. ROBERTS A good thing for both of you? Vivian Of course. We both want to move past this, so a new show will only help. DR. ROBERTS Have you told him about the conversations you've been having with that reporter? Vivian looks at her hands, fidgets with her nails. Vivian Not yet. But I'm going to... DR. ROBERTS I think that fear you feel is what's triggering the panic attacks. If you want your marriage to work, you need to trust-- Vivian I told you, I'll talk to him... She turns her attention to a paintings on the wall behind Dr. Roberts. It's an abstract rose, the center of which is like a spiraling red tunnel toward a black hole. INT. STUDIO - DAY Blinding lights shine down from tri-pod mounts onto a white backdrop. Two PHOTOGRAPHERS circle DEVON HEART (Late 40s) as he strikes poses in his flannel and khaki, a leather belt loaded down with tools around his waist.

REGAN Was that where you woke up this morning? ALANA Yeah. That's where I got the call. Regan pulls out her flashlight, gets down on the ground and shines the light under the dumpster. The light sweeps across the ground, illuminates broken liquor bottles, crumpled paper, and finally, something SHINY against the brick wall. EDDIE Anything? REGAN Hang on. Can you help me with this? Eddie eases Alana against the wall and helps Regan shove the dumpster away from the wall. In the wedge-shaped gap, a KEY rests on the ground. Regan snaps on a glove and picks it up. She turns the key in her hand, runs her finger of the name REGAN etched into head. EDDIE When's the last time you saw an honest to goodness metal key? Regan shows the key to Alana. REGAN Did he mention anything about a key? ALANA He didn't say anything-- Alana coughs, doubles over. Blood splatters on her sleeve. Eddie shoots Alana a look. EDDIE We should take her in. ALANA I'm fine. I-- Alana erupts into another coughing fit. Regan folds her arms. REGAN Why don't you let us take you to hospice, they can make sure you're comfortable. ALANA I don't want to be comfortable. I want to catch this asshole. REGAN Then tell us what we're missing, huh? Was there something you were supposed to do with the key? ALANA I don't know! EDDIE Regan, will you take it easy? Regan locks eyes with him, reins it in. ALANA I'm sorry. We just... we need something right now, anything. EDDIE Just relax and close your eyes, see if anything comes to mind. There aren't any unimportant details. Alana closes her eyes. Then falls to the ground. Eddie catches her before she hits the ground and Regan shoots him a scowl, hisses under her breath. REGAN Let's get the fuck out of here. Eddie guides Alana to the cruiser, but Regan lingers. She glances at the apartment windows above, a flicker of movement in one of them behind the closed curtains.
