This series was one of the ones that really got me into fantasy when I was young, I still feel like it has some of the best character writing out there in this genre. I still reread it, and the follow up series, from time to time and can feel the echo of all my teenage emotions.

So it's not clear to me that there is a natural progression from the car providing assistance to the car doing all driving in a fully unmonitored fashion. There certainly appears to be a sizable region in between that can't easily be bridged by just slowly adding more features

The problem imo is that the "in between stage" is actually worse than both manual driving and the theoretic car performing all activities. Having the car drive in most conditions but needing to be able to take over at any point is the worst of both worlds, as it is a task humans are very unsuited to

I often write as pipelines/functions first and then when I'm looking to productionise it I will go back and refactor logical groupings or complex logic into classes. The refactor is relatively quick as I know the logic all works but makes it easier to maintain or extend later on.

My corn snake would do the same so I got her a second water bowl to ensure that she always had clean water. She would then just upturn the clean one after pooing in the big bowl 🤦‍♂️

The same applies to Labour's EU policy. The inability to talk about how further integration and alignment will be required to reduce red tape and improve growth leaves them with limited manoeuvring space and easy attack lines for the Cons as soon as they are in gov.

Excellent piece that strikes to the heart of why I'm still struggling to throw myself behind Starter. The inability to bluntly state now that increased levels of funding is crucial to undoing much of the damage of the last decade is going to cripple them as soon as they get into power.

Hard to see any good way forward for them, which I assume is what Hamas gambled on. I fear they will just flatten Gaza without any real plan for what comes after.

I think they are somewhat stuck. A purely aerial campaign will only temporarily degrade Hamas and fail to even try to save hostages, but they desperately don't want to be dragged into a ground invasion and further occupation again which would be destabilising and hugely costly in lives.
