I've been reading Code The Classics
magpi.raspberrypi.com/books/code-t...

Volume 2 is now also available.

I've started work on a new version of my favourite Atari 2600 game. Combat.

Maybe I'll be done in time for the 50th Anniversay in 2027

This is a little project that I've been thinking about and tinkering with for a long time.

The goal was to create a calculator in html, style it a little bit with css, and implement the features in plain JS.

And use NO 'IF' Statements at all.

Hunger strike in British jails and no one bats an eyelid.

Please let’s get the word out.

Britain’s biggest hunger strike in decades – and the media won’t touch it
THE Palestine Action hunger strike is on track to become the largest since the 1981 Irish republican protest led by Bobby Sands, yet campaigners say it has faced a “mainstream media blackout.”So far, ...

Im doing advent of code. And as usual Python makes it easy.

I’m trying to also do it in C (nit even C++, going properly old school)

I am failing miserably. It’s been 30years since I did C and even then it was basic College introductory level.

A few months back I did a thread on solar panels in Ireland during the Summer.

I thought I might show what Winter looks like too.

Here’s the Summer thread.

bsky.app/profile/zx23...
Here’s why solar panels need batteries. It’s a cloudy day so the power generation is up and down all day. But the house is using around half a kW.

If we only had panels the panels would only generate what the house needs.

The surplus would be lost.

Later when it gets dark we’d hit the grid

So the UK is going to have a mental health enquiry that is not allowed to mention COVID to follow on from the economic health enquiry that was not allowed to mention BREXIT.

Normal country lads. Very normal.

Sunderland have a chance of a draw at Anfield, but are time wasting, meaning they'll probably have 10 mins of injury time.

And they'll probably lose.

Years ago. Mid 90’s.
I was in a diner in Washington DC.

Their toilets had Blue and Red signs saying Liberal and Conservative.

Being Irish and it being the 90’s I didn’t get the joke.

I also wasn’t too sure which I was.

Turns out, if in doubt you could use either. Nobody cared which you used.

If Rubio would just shut up about war, he might get it.
Trump dozes while Marco Rubio speaks to him directly next to him. Just insane optics.

I've been playing with CoPilot etc to generate code.
I don't know if it will put me out of a job, make my job easier, or make my job harder.

It does appear that pretending it doesn't exist would make the remaining 10-15 years of my career risky.

Just on the phone with Energia. Electricity contract with them is up, so shopping around.

The pricing structure of electricity is now so convoluted it's not possible to have a meaningful conversation with their sales staff.

You want economic growth?

Release your restrictions on immigration. Forge significantly closer economic ties with Europe.

You don't want to do that?

Then you don't get to talk about economic growth.

It's that simple.

Given the UKs weird obsession with stopping migration, maybe it's time all 4.8 million of these people were sent home to the UK.

You know those days where you’re stuck cleaning up a mess that only exists because you listened to someone?

I really have to stop being such a team player.

I’m right. I’ve always been right and the sooner the rest of you get on board the less hassle it’ll be for everyone.

Oh my god this is so perfect:
A few weeks back a Labour supporter was telling me all the things Labour had achieved.

I pointed out most of what they were saying was in the future and might yet not happen or might be watered down.

If that was you. I can’t find you but….

Sadly the current right-wing coalition government in Finland has cut the funding for the nation’s “Housing First” success story, & homelessness is now on the rise again. That just reinforces the fact that such programs work, if political ideology doesn’t stand in the way.

Oh fuck off you stupid cunts.

You haven’t had an income tax increase for 50 years.

Your country is broke and your economy is broken.

You’ve tried austerity, self imposed sanctions, a lifetime of “low” tax.

Pay your tax. Start fixing your public services and infrastructure.

Grow the fuck up.
