Maybe they could do something different to get more speed out of the hardware-accelerated SHA256 implementation. If you see how, I'm sure they'd be happy to see the patch.

The btrfs filesystem devs are considering adding BLAKE3 as a "checksum", and in this experiment of these implementations on this CPU, the pure-software BLAKE3 implementation is four times as fast as the hardware-accelerated SHA256: github.com/kdave/btrfs-...

1) why. why would you use this and not something like ChaCha20Poly1305.
2) this is an exceedingly bad toy impl written by someone with no cryptography training. there seems to be better constructions of BLAKE3 AEADs than.... this bullshit
