Common Grackle, one of 125 species of birds I recorded in the Zena Woods last year. I loved watching from my studio window as these sassy birds feasted on caterpillars.

A square, grey-scale square drawing rendered in pencil. A snake skeleton twists in a complicated tangle. Ghost pipes, lichens and Turkey tail fungi bloom from the skeleton. In one of the snake skeleton’s coils, a nest of leaves cradles three baby chipmunks, asleep and curled up. In the bottom right corner, an adult chipmunk faces off with the snake’s skull.

‘Snakes of Zion National Park.’ I made this graphite drawing after my artist residency at Zion National Park back in 2018!

800+ drawings done! I just completed my four year ‘Commonly Observed Flora, Fauna and Fungi’ project by publishing all 50 state prints! I used iNaturalist to identify frequently spotted species in each state, rendered these species in pencil, and arranged the drawings into prints with species keys.
