Messing around a bit with QB prospect data. A look at notable names (current pros and 2026 prospects) who had in their college careers both:

* Pressure to sack ≥ 20%
* Negative play rate ≥ 10%

(min. 300 career dropbacks)

Interesting that Lamar is literally the only good QB here.

This probably doesn't mean anything to those casting MVP votes, but I thought it was interesting. Among QBs with at least 20 dropbacks in any game this season, Drake Maye has three games ranked in the top-15 in EPA/dropback. Only Darnold and Goff have more than one game in top-15 EPA

Cam Ward since Week 5:

On play action:

* -0.20 EPA/play
* 38.1 percent success rate

No play action:

* -0.12 EPA/play
* 42.4 percent success rate

Somebody pass this along to Mike McCoy.

Checking in on QB negative play rate through Week 10, and it's another bad one for J.J. McCarthy.

Negative play rate is a stat I've began tracking a few years ago. It's sacks+interceptions+fumbles lost ÷ dropbacks.
November 10, 2025 at 3:17 PM
The Steelers have lost three of their last four and Aaron Rodgers has been brutal over that stretch. Among QBs with ≥ 80 dropbacks since Week 7, Rodgers has a success rate and the second-lowest ADOT on completed passes (3.9) ahead of only Dillon Gabriel (3.7) and Geno Smith (2.7).
November 10, 2025 at 1:40 PM
J.J. McCarthy is much better than a lot of his peers at throwing an accurate ball when pressured. KOC should consider telling the OL to block less. This is analytics!
November 10, 2025 at 4:22 AM
Want highest uncatchable pass rates when pressured?

1. Russell Wilson - 59.0%
2. Jacoby Brissett - 57.9%
..
..
..
..
..
..
21. J.J. McCarthy - 44.7%

Seems like the OL should let him get pressured more so he can play well!
November 10, 2025 at 4:17 AM
My bad. Here's the highest uncatchable pass rates by QBs when not facing pressure (min. 70 dropbacks -- to fit McCarthy's four games in the group):

1. J.J. McCarthy - 30.6%
2. Dillon Gabriel - 30.2%
3. Cam Ward - 28.0%
4. Michael Penix - 27.0%
5. Carson Wentz - 26.3%

November 10, 2025 at 3:26 AM
QBs from 2021-2024 with:

* min. 150 dropbacks
* Uncatchable pass rate ≥ 33.0%

Still Time for J.J. McCarthy (and Michael Penix, I suppose) to correct course, but the company they are keeping is almost all awful.
November 10, 2025 at 3:03 AM
A little stat I just whipped up for the folks.

Uncatchable pass rate among QBs (min. 50 dropbacks)

Uncatchable passes ÷ total pass attempts

1. Michael Penix - 36.2 percent
2. J.J. McCarthy - 36.1 percent
3. Davis Mills - 35.4 percent

The handling of the 2025 Commanders backfield is a strike against Adam Peters.

Croskey-Merritt hasn’t proven to be anything special.

McNichols didn’t log an offensive touch in 2022 or 2023. Journeyman. 29.

Rodriguez was cut in 2024 and brought back to PS. Was a PS back to start this year.
