Finding the animal "Lighthorse", which looks like a lighthouse with legs, and a head made out of transparent cones of light. Cormorants still hanging around this rookery. Mostly juveniles. The rookery was distant but I thought I’d share the view. Species nesting here this summer-Neotropic & DC cormorants, Cattle Egrets, LT Grackles, GB heron, BN Stilts, G quail, B owl,++.🪶 📷 #wildlife #nature
These 5 look like juvenile neotropic cormorants with dark brown neck and chest. 2 are standing on tiny nests, 1 is sitting in a nest facing away from me, one has its wings spread with its back to me. Another, perched on a top branch in this dead tree, has its back to me. Looks like 3 Neotropic Cormorant adults perched in a thicket of dead trees jutting out of the pond. 2 are standing on small nests, 1 standing at water level with wings spread wide. 16 cormorants perched on dead trees in the pond that has been their rookery for months. 2 look like juvenile Neotropics, 2 are too hidden, 1 looks like an adult Double-crested, the rest look like juvenile Double-Cresteds. The foreground is a thicket of small dead branches. Immediately behind the rookery is a White Pelican and a couple Ruddy ducks floating in the pond very small and blurry from this distance. Beyond them is a manmade dirt island surrounded by small boulders with more pond visible behind it speckled with black dots that are ducks. Looks like mostly Double-crested cormorant juveniles with their pale neck and chest. I do see at least one Neotropic. There might also be some hybrids in there. They are all mostly standing/preening in a row on the newly constructed dirt island in the middle of the pond. The white pelicans are standing/preening behind them. Babysitters?

6 month, long exposure pinhole camera Solargram.

Paper wet - part was beginning to disintegrate from water intrusion. Had snow & wind storms & lots of rain May/June 2025.

Pinhole is tiny - I was surprised paper was so wet. Very pleased with result - even more pleased I got the angle right.
A solargram photo taken from the Winter Solstice of 2024 (21 Dec) to Summer Solstice of 2025 (20 June). It's a 6 month long exposure taken with a beer can pinhole camera, it shows the sun's movement across the sky during that time period, each day the Sun scribes a line on the paper in the pinhole camera. The bottom line is Dec 21 2024 and the top line is 20 June 2025. This kind of photo makes the movement of the Sun during the day into visible trails on the paper in the camera. There is a long orange-yellow arc going across the paper showing the whole 6 months. There is a shadow of my tree on the image, the tree blossomed during the exposure. Shades of blue and pink are on the paper too. There is a black kind of semi circle at the top of the image, that's where the water was disintegrating the top part of the paper.

An incredible experience today. The Agami Heron is a very rare species and one that's difficult to see. But today I made a new friend who discovered a rookery with over 300 of these incredible birds that are on a new property he bought.
