In Nov 2024, BlueSky became my primary platform. Still have my @ziadfazel on Xitter because of my history of threads there.

Thanks for following me (back) here again.

Super interesting quotes in that article:

"Because fewer than 10 percent of those graduates pursue high-demand specialties like embedded systems, firmware, power electronics, or AI-hardware integration. That’s why employers often say we have “too many engineers, but not enough talent.” ...

I live in a low-rise apartment condo with incompetent/corrupt board/property manager. Hard to get rid of them; I’m working on it. 1980 building w 2 elevators - one working, one intermittent fail. Don’t know why engineering school didn’t get this as project, as can compare parts. I will try this.

Bingo. And, then, once it's done, it can be rolled into an engineering club for down-time between classes.

We've got one mid-60s and one mid-70s machines. AC parts are being replaced with DC and they're building around an Arduino that they used in their 1st year programming class.

Cool. I imagine it is also easier to fundraise and to house such projects, as opposed to eg a car or go-cart.

There’s still a lot of engineering in a pinball machine, even if there isn’t an IC engine or large battery-motor-generator hardware.

This year, I've got two pinball "rebuild" capstone teams.

Why pinball? Because it's fun, it's visible and it's multidisciplinary.

I want my students to be able to get attention and to show off their skills.

... and "Many are skipping traditional milestones like P.Eng licensing and instead focusing on projects that prove their skills."

(Sounds like capstone and extra-curriculars like Mini-Baja, Formula and robotics team participation are just as important today as they were when I was a student)

Agreed. And as a professional, it is not only fun and fulfilling to assist or mentor students in such projects, but also good exposure to high quality employers / colleagues who see the same value.

As you know from Xitter, today YouTube algorithm served me Kate Bush’s 45-min 1979 BBC Xmas special from end of her rare tour, and I was delighted by her, and surprised by Peter Gabriel too.

1979. She was a black and purple mysterious butterfly. And Peter Gabriel boomed the key verse of a ballad.

Typo 3 tickets, but I couldn’t have swung the 2 for you and hubs either.

$500 for 3 tickets?! I thought you were an indie chick and this may be an indie/underground band so I could maybe gift you two a cover charge at a bar, for the good karma. Clearly, I don’t know this band or its prices.

Online adult model w heart of gold, by her account.

WTF agent?!

"Mochen said Pulver told her he has never been paid by Kaliyev, though he has represented the player since 2020."

Boosh and I manage joint assets transparently, both signatures for ANY $ > monthly draw.
