Thirteen brands of pasta would be affected. On the upside, homemade pasta, while much more work, tastes incredible.

“This is the best climate book I’ve ever read. It’s magnificent—both planetary and personal, saturated with electric metaphors, incisive vignettes, legitimately funny jokes, and an unflappable, knowing love for Earth, our home.”—@ayanaeliza.bsky.social

Annual Hachiya persimmon PSA!
Enjoy these persimmons AFTER they soften—so soft, you may think they're bad. Firm Hachiya persimmons are horribly astringent. You'll never forget the day you bite into an unripe one. But after they ripen, they taste like candy. (Eat squat Fuyus any time.)

I transplanted an artichoke mama to the backyard. This trunk-like stalk has 10 babies attached to it (you can't see them all here). Artichokes are perennial vegetables—at least in my zone, 9b.

Raising Hare ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
During lockdown in the English countryside, the author comes across an abandoned newborn hare. After initially hesitating, she brings the leveret home. She does not name it or treat it as a pet and rarely handles to honor its wild nature. The memoir chronicles their relationship.

Cauliflower leaves make a tasty side.
Toss in olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and roast at 400°F for 15 minutes or until the ribs are fork tender.
If the ribs are thick (1/2 inch or larger), separate them from the greens and roast separately as the leaves cook faster.

Halloween waste is frightful!
Every Halloween, 1.3 billion pounds of pumpkin go to landfills, generating polluting methane gas. That's on top of fast fashion costumes, plastic decorations and more candy than we can eat.

Remember: The ribs of collard greens, chard, kale, beets and other greens are food! I chop mine up finely and sauté them along with onions. These collard greens and stems went into a pot of chickpea stew. Yum!

Adding a piece of kombu (a type of seaweed) to dry beans as they soak and then cook, helps reduce gas-producing raffinose sugars present in beans.

Wheat paste works well for jar labels or protest signs.
I cut these labels out of a brown paper bag lying around. Go here for the wheat paste recipe: zerowastechef.com/2020/10/07/p...

This peach tree is part of the gift economy. In 2021, I snagged it as a sapling from a community garden share and planted it in my yard. Last year, it bore a bit of fruit. This year, it provided more. In the near future, it should produce more fruit than we can eat 🤞 and I'll share the harvest.

Crushing cabbage to prepare sauerkraut helps relieve stress, kind of like one of those stress ball things. Looks like I need to prep some every single day... Eating fermented foods can also help reduce stress.

Plants communicate, recognize (and favor) their kin, hear sounds, store memories and some even change their shape to mimic nearby plants 🤯
