What happens when the batteries go t*tsup? French manufacturers are selling EVs but keeping ownership of the batteries. I presume, they then lease them to the car owner.

Seems a fair way to spread the cost to the owner, IF that is what they do. Or are they simply maximising profit? I dunno.

All my Grandparents viewed hospital as somewhere you go to die. Us young 'uns (ha!) see it as a place to go to get better - fortunately, we're not wrong.

Are you getting a plastic lens or just removal of the cataract(s)?

(Caveat: I am more interested in your dog than you. No offence like 😜)

Makes you think the rumours about Putain having all the shit on Trumpy might just be true.
November 23, 2025 at 5:53 PM
She seems to be a total oxygen thief. But that aside, why should she say or do anything, unless there is something in it for her. Transactional, like what trumpy says he does. And, tbh, what all of us do.

I first came across this when I became a computer programmer. Most of which is 'merkin English. COBOL is my favourite example - Common Business-Oriented Language. Still looks and sounds so wrong to me.

Warm here in the north of the Dordogne. Until last night, when a thunderstorm really crashed the temperature - it's now 17°C :-) A very strange warm wind has been blowing these last few days. Soon be our time to sojourn in Spain for the winter.

Loved Rhea Seahorn in Better Call Saul. So I'll watch this because she's in it. Especially if it turns out to be as good as this review.

Not me! A real UK pint of 5-6%ABV is fine, but stronger beers are just, well, too strong. They have to have a really interesting taste before I'll sip them. Generally, I drink because I'm thirsty, not because I want to get rat-arsed.

12oz seems a strange size bottle. When I was young, many years ago, it came in nip-sized bottles - between 1/4 and 1/3 pint. That's a UK pint, so 20fl oz, ta very much. Too expensive for yoofs like me, but when available, drunk with a pint as a chaser. I guess I'd sip it instead of wine nowadays.

Including the EU, sadly. I still have access to decent weed-killer, but here in Yurrup, it's vinegar (well, OK, strong acetic acid) or nothing. Talc is getting harder to find - it seems to be due to an 1990's report stating slight contamination with minerals that might look like asbestos. Bizarre.

I hadn't heard that. It *sounds* like a poor joke. I hope it is. But then, is there any politician today who hasn't done far, far worse?
October 30, 2025 at 1:51 PM
No it doesn't, according to the guv'mint. "...NATO does not explicitly require the UK to be nuclear capable..." - I dunno what you've got against Zazk, but keep it factual.
October 30, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Dunno why nuclear non-proliferation, for the UK at least, is an issue. We're too small to get much defence with them.

Some Green policies do seem a bit "crank" but Zack seems anything other than barking mad,

Compared to LibToryDeform and the "let's play" LibDems, he'll get my vote.

Agreed. But the Muskrat is wrong, there will be civil war in the not-USA long before we get to that sort of societal breakdown. Not that we're not trying. I'm still puzzled why Sarf Africka, the 'rats homeland, is still limping along without full-on infighting.

One of my favourite sayings. Also, Asimov's "the amount of intelligence in the world is finite. The population is increasing"

Aah, now I know what you're building. The nazis were innovative, with their Blohm & Voss BV141 and this He111-Z etc. Not that there is anything else good about them. I guess the 'merkins glued two Mustangs together as well, so not all one-sided. Really looking forward to the end result.

Courgettes. Watery nothingness, insipid, uninspiring, can't even feed the things to my animals.

I rather think this is good news as a) I am exempt, I have residency in France, and b) more importantly, those who are on the fence about brexshit, might actively come down on the side of rejoining with this extra hassle. Brexshitters? They can be inconvenienced as much as possible for all I care.

Acoba is a toothless tiger - Blojob won't care, he'll ignore them and carry on in his usual corrupt yet incompetent way: so long as he gets richer. He's already got his name in the history books, he's got/getting all he ever wanted. And Fartage is using the same playbook, so now it's his turn.
October 10, 2025 at 9:23 PM
Unless I know who is calling, I tend to either say nothing at all or a very terse "speak" and see where we go from there. Not very friendly, but I find most callers are spam nowadays. Comes of having no friends, doncherknow? :-)

I see Matthew Syed has written a worrying piece in yesterday's Sunday Times - www.thetimes.com/article/650a... - dunno if it's behind a paywall. But he (not the most unbiased of journalists) gets a rough ride. I wonder if the police are getting the same abuse? Could explain their tuff luv action.
I asked a simple question at a pro-Palestine protest and it turned ugly
Police arrested 493 people at the pro-Palestine protests in Trafalgar Square, where I encountered abuse, swearing, ignorance and virulent, unthinking antisemitism
