It's not just married women. It's people who've changed their name for any reason. It's older people who haven't seen their birth certificates since college enrollment. It's anyone who can't afford $165 for a passport. It's anyone who moves and needs to register.

It's a voter suppression bill.
America, if you’re not awake yet, here is your alarm bell…

Can anyone point me at the origins of the phrase, “The Jews are tired” or a use from before 2017?

The Budapest Memorandum (1994) saw Ukraine give up its nuclear arsenal in exchange for U.S., UK, and Russian security assurances. Today, as the U.S. halts aid under Trump, it abandons those commitments, signaling to the world that American promises are worthless. A betrayal of global trust.

Have you heard? There’s a new bill that makes it harder for millions of eligible Americans to vote. Join me and @standupamerica.bsky.social in urging Congress to vote NO on the SAVE Act: act.standupamerica.com/letters/no-o...
Vote NO on the SAVE Act!
The SAVE Act is a trick to undermine our voting rights. Urge Congress to vote no on the SAVE ACT.

Most people probably aren’t tracking this but Senate Republicans just started an all-night voting marathon that will allow them to gut Medicaid and increase child hunger while giving handouts to billionaires like Elon Musk.

If you’re concerned about birth rates, shouldn’t you also be concerned with keeping those people alive?
BREAKING: House Republicans have released their budget resolution. They are aiming to cut Medicaid by at least $880 billion, and cut SNAP by at least 20%.

What if there were a coup, the US government fell to a drug-addled oligarch who seized control of our money, secrets, and levers of power, and Corporate media did not report on it?

Tammy Duckworth is just killing Hegseth.
Gets him to admit he has never done internationals security arrangements. Doesn't know what SecDef has to do on same.

She asks him to name ASEAN countries and significance of them. He names a bunch of countries that aren't part of ASEAN.

Very nicely done, reminiscent of Woody Guthrie. The tune is John Prine’s “Fish and Whistle.”

I am seeing lots of gnashing and wailing. What I am not seeing are plans for resistance and taking back seats in the midterms. Who is there even to run? What about the grassroots level?

Don’t mourn. Organize!

Free fiction: “Proteus Island” by Stanley G. Weinbaum (1936)

Weinbaum, one of the best of the pre-Golden Age sf writers, remains eminently readable. Here, a zoologist marooned on a island discovers its flora and fauna are dangerously odd.

Trump has loaded his cabinet with men credibly accused of sexual assault.

So, naturally, the media, with MAGA’s guidance, is focused on… whether one trans woman should be allowed to use a bathroom.

The American press never fails to fail covering this guy and his sexually deviant posse.
