Reader, RN, dilettante. They/them for now.
Still disturbed by the firing of everyone in the CIA's queer work chat. The fact that it's utter nonsense is part and also the fact that the rule is retroactive.

I’m already GETTING an authoritarian form of government, and it’s NOT COMING WITH TRAINS.

What a shitty deal.

BAD BAD BAD BAD THIS IS REALLY BAD YALL
So they removed the black chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the middle of his 4-year tour, without cause, and they're seeking to replace him with a white **retired** Air Force three-star general who lacks the requisite experience as a service chief or combatant commander? Huh, how about that

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire

I had not thought of this but it tracks with my experience being queer.
just speaking from personal experience now, i think it is really important to understand that simply being black is read by a non-trivial number of people as anti-white extremism

Okay so with RFK attacking neurodivergence there's going to be infighting about whether autism, adhd, depression etc are disabilities.

This is NOT the argument to have.

Oh wow yeah, cancer treatments have gotten SO much better generally. Saved my dad. Fund science.
In 2013, I did a dermatology elective at a cancer hospital and my takeaway every day was how grim the prognosis was for any form of advanced/non-localized melanoma. I have barely been practicing medicine for any amount of time and that has now completely changed thanks to our NIH-funded researchers.

I can't go to this but it may be relevant to people I know. Time to say STOP.

Wow, having a young cat is making it REALLY obvious how old my previous cat was. Cats move really fast when they're healthy, apparently?

My least favorite part of excessive stress is the way my brain deals with it by creating additional problems (real or imaginary, not sure which is worse) until I can't be expected to handle them all.

So far, I haven't blown up any close friendships? Really trying to avoid that pattern this time.

A) Right, that's how it's supposed to work

B) SUPPOSED to work
Executive orders don't get to just ignore the Constitution. That requires an entire mechanism of corruption and insurrection that must be discussed and fought every fucking step of the way.

TLDR: There is nothing enforceable for the immediate future. It will take months or years to implement this via rulemaking or bureaucratic changes which are then subject to legal challenge. While it's worrying, there's no immediate change yet for most trans people. Do not comply in advance.

Is anyone else reminded of that time the state of Indiana tried to legislate that pi was 3?

New Cat seems not to be afraid of people (he meows at me for attention) and is just scared of all the weird thumping noises that come from being in a basement. I think this will work!

The House Republican Child Predator Empowerment Act does not promote fairness and safety in sports.

It will unleash horrific child predators on girls and young women throughout America.

Unacceptable.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA omg please talk to a classicist
Roberts makes a whole big deal about how internet porn has CHANGED and gotten more EXTREME and Your Honor as someone who has been on the internet for many many years I assure you that the only thing that's changed is better streaming quality

This genuinely worries me.
Back in Nazi Germany, art that was deemed "degenerate" was piled up in the streets and burned. I think people are waiting for stuff like that to start happening. But we don't live in an era of physical media anymore. That art is just going to quietly vanish from streaming services one day.

every trans author I know is currently unclear on whether their books will be banned in the next four years or not, buy trans books NOW, in paper

THIS. MZB was both a pillar of the community and a terrible person.

Some trans people are also terrible! Not because they're trans! Because they're people and some people are terrible!

Sometimes you just need to play Bella Ciao REALLY loud, and for those times, I recommend having a friend who plays tuba and another friend who plays piano.

Some days I miss my spouse because he was an amazing person and I both liked and loved him.

Some days I miss have A spouse, in general, someone I could depend on for emotional support and physical comfort.

Today is both.
