I lost a 30gb iPod classic, with all the music I collected from high school thru college and, to this day, it feels like I lost the Library of Alexandria.
The only ethical way to listen to music is MP3s that you illegally downloaded between 1999-2012 and then transferred from external hard drive to external hard drive ever since.
