I think its part of doing exposition redundantly. If the first time the player wasn't listening, and the second time they heard you but didn't understand, maybe the third time they'll get it.
For the lowest common denominator to enjoy it you gotta bash it over their heads just the right amount.

I devilishly advocate that these are for signaling the player they’ve branched on a path as opposed to actually giving them exposition they couldn’t otherwise observe thru writing.
Even with good writing, a character dying from a player choice they didn’t know they made might confuse the player.

I also used this piece to experiment with lineless rendering. There are parts I wish I had accomplished better but it was a fruitful exercise. Gotta try this more often!
