The 40th Annual Helmut Grunberg Yukon Birdathon was a great success yesterday. The winning team recorded 126 species, and the combined total was a whopping 159 species! You can donate to support bird conservation in the Yukon at yukonbirds.ca/... just click on donate and choose Birdathon Fund!

Yukon birders were out in force yesterday, participating in #GlobalBigDay. Despite snow piling down in the morning (in Whitehorse, at least), they recorded 107 species on 133 separate checklists! The last species of the day was a Boreal Owl heard singing at 11:51 pm! #birds

Spectacular show at the Faro Crane & Sheep Festival this past weekend! Yukon Bird Club folks counted 69,440 (let's just say 70,000!) Sandhill Cranes on Sunday alone. More passed through on Saturday, and "thousands ... continue streaming over" this morning as well. Photos by Cameron Eckert. #birds

The report for the 2024 Whitehorse Christmas Bird Count is now up on our website. Record number of participants (57) and high counts for Mallard (135), Northern Shrike (2), American Crow (12), Red-breasted Nuthatch (27), and Red Crossbill (176)! 26 species in all...
