A while ago, there was an insta video featuring an old Filipino guy who spoke Spanish as a first language, and a lot of the comments were like whining about the video promoting a colonial language and crap…..In ENGLISH, a language first imposed by another colonial power. ¡Dios mio!

Luthen’s assistant in Andor (dont know her name) looks a hell a lot like OG trilogy Carrie Fisher and the little girl who played Leia in Kenobi. Do you think this is basically an audition for her for a future Leia appearance?

Just watched A Real Pain. As someone with OCD, if they ever make a remake of As Good As It Gets, Jesse Eisenberg would probably make it the most realistic depiction of it ever.

Just finished "George, Nicholas, and Wilhelm" by Miranda Carter on the WWI monarchs. To sum it up:

George: Neurotic though stable.

Nicholas: Clueless and out of touch.

Wilhelm: Megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur and mommy Issues.

Saw Green Bones, like a Filipino Shawshank Redemption. Makes me wish they make a Filipino adaptation of Count of Monte Cristo.

“QUENCHING AN URGE WITH POISON? TAKE LESHAN BLOOD-CLEANSING ANTI-TOXIN PILLS”
The urge is lust and the poison? Syphilis. This ad advertises Chinese traditional medicine pills for those with urinary problems caused by syphilis. (see alt text for more)

The last three weeks of my life have been liberating as I learned a new skillset that I can’t wait to practice in my life, cooking. Thank you CCA Manila.

Learned how to make pasta from scratch today and man I’m bubbling with ideas. Gonna watch Chef’s Table first.

My last dish at the CCA: Margarita Pizza. Interesting factoid I learned today. Margarita Pizza was designed to have the colors of the Italian flag.

Do other historians passionate about their projects ever get some kind of adrenaline rush from researching, that when you finish reading a source, you feel that it’s not enough and you keep finding new sources nonstop until you realize 4 years has passed?

I will not be surprised at all if this turns out to be the key to understanding what he did (if he did it).
Luigi Mangione's Twitter profile image includes what looks like an X-ray of a back/spine injury. His public Goodreads profile includes fairly recent reviews of several books about back pain and chronic pain

19th century anarchist assassins probably wish they had social media. Even if it turns out this wasn’t about insurance, the reception is what Propaganda of the deed was all about.

Currently watching Tunay na Ina (Real Mother), one of 5 surviving pre WWIi Filipino movies. Rosario Moreno’s “makakaawa” (pitiful” voice seems to be the equivalent of the Mid-Atlantic accent in Hollywood, in that it’s a staple of movies back then, at least in her movies.

Ever since I became interested in the history of the Spanish language in the Philippines, I've been very conscious of its lingering presence in the country, particularly in my life. My grandfather, Aquilino Bonto, used to help me with my Spanish homework back in middle school.

Currently on a WWI Audible binge. Kaiser Willhelm II is the epitome of mommy issues, hating his mother while loving her to the point that some of his letters to her have been described as sexual. It's too bad it led to his hatred of England which then contributed to the war.

My translation of the caption: “Boys who, during Youth Week, served as Mayor of Manila, Municipal Council President, Chief of Police, etc.” They couldn’t have been worse than what we got now.

Went to my godmother’s wake where many of the prayers were in Spanish. Turns out the organization Asociacion Teresiana and its school, Poveda, considered the best girl’s school in the Philippines, still use Spanish, surviving the dehispanization most Filipino institutions went through.
