Yesterday the City of Ypsilanti had the honor of welcoming the city's newest affordable and senior housing complex! Transforming this redeveloped space, Residences at Huron is providing more than 150 affordable senior units right off Clark Road.

The City has partnered with the Washtenaw County Conservation District to give away 200 trees to City residents! Residents can choose Hackberry, Bur Oak, or Red Pine. These seedlings are best suited for planting on private property.

The City will be hosting three upcoming Water Street Community Engagement Sessions. The first one is next week on April 16, at 10:30 at SPARK East. Please plan to join us at one or all three events!
History of Water Street The History of Water Street Event will be on Wednesday, April 16th, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. at SPARK East Innovation Center, 215 W. Michigan Ave. The goal of the event is to educate the public and potential developers about the site's history. The event will feature a panel discussion with Former City Manager Ed Koryzno (1996-2012), Former City Planner & Community & Economic Development Teresa Gillotti (2010-2014), and Jeremy McCallion, AKT, previous Washtenaw County Brownfield Planner (2007-2009) and Current City of Ypsilanti Environmental Consultant with AKT Peerless. Brownfield Redevelopment and Water Street The Brownfield Redevelopment and Water Street Event will be on Wednesday, April 23rd, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at SPARK East Innovation Center, 215 W. Michigan Ave. The goal is to share information about brownfield site development, state and federal laws, and market and financing realities. The panel discussion will include Scott Wasielewski, AKT Peerless, Katie Jones, City of Ypsilanti, and Nathan Vogt, Washtenaw County Brownfield Redevelopment Coordinator. The Future of Water Street The Future of Water Street will be on Thursday, May 1st, from 6:30 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. at the Freight House, 100 Market Place. The goal is to conceptualize future development for Water Street. City Manager Andrew Hellenga and Mayor Nicole Brown will share their vision for the future of Water Street, followed by a presentation from CWA that will recap the previous events and set the stage for participants to create outlines of the future development. Attendees will be asked to provide input on design expectations, limitations, and potential community benefits for future redevelopment proposals.

Road Closure Alert: Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority will be dispatching a crew to repair a sewer lateral. As a result, S. Mansfield will be temporarily closed between Jones St. and Warner St. during the repair work.

Ypsilanti City Council Meeting Highlights from February 4th Ypsilanti proclaimed the month of February as Black History Month. A presentation was made by Kat Layton and Justin Harper, members of the Human Relations Commission, discussing their 2024 Annual Report. The Ypsilanti City Council adopted the 2024-2025 Goal-Setting Report as its budget priorities for FY 2025-2026 and directed the City Manager to consider the priorities during the preparation of the FY 2025-2026 budget, in accordance with Section 5.02 of the Ypsilanti City charter. Authorized to dissolve the lease agreement between DTE, the City, and the Highland Cemetery and to allow all revenue produced by the lease ($8,000 annually) to the Highland Cemetery. Meeting Highlights from Ypsilanti City Council on February 4th, 2025. Ypsilanti City Council approved a request for legislation to have meeting agendas shared on the website Wednesday by noon, before the scheduled bi-weekly meetings. If the Monday due date falls on a holiday, all deadlines will be moved back by one day. Approved allowing the authority of the City Manager to sign the Peninsular Dam Removal grant agreement for the City of Ypsilanti with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. Approved a mini-grant to the Trades Program for Youth and Adults for $5,000 to support programs assisting community youth through their efforts. www.tradesprogramsforyouthandadults.org/ Meeting Highlights from Ypsilanti City Council on February 4th, 2025. The City of Ypsilanti has requested to participate in the City Smart Program, which will provide city staff with workshops and other benchmarking strategies and decrease the carbon footprint. The Ypsilanti City Council supported the City's entry into the pilot program. The Council discussed Water Street Fence Repair and Tree Removal. The Council decided that the City should provide $7,500 to work with PATH and WSO to support those present for relocation. A discussion occurred on City Boards & Commissions on policy and procedure updates done by the Clerks Department. Meeting Highlights from Ypsilanti City Council on February 4th, 2025. The City Council approved a resolution with amendments to prevent private individuals from taking over the government and directed the City Clerk to send it to US Senators, Congressional Representatives, and the Governor. The City Council approved sponsoring the Juneteenth annual event for $2,500 without fees. The next Ypsilanti City Council meeting will occur at 7 PM on February 18th, 2025.
