I'm a bit afraid to count. Hmm, I think it's 6 (one is the younger kid's).

You never know! That's been one of the interesting bits of the My People's Prayer series -- one of the commentaries traces through who changed what when and why.

And .. um ... I meant מייה הכל oops
November 28, 2025 at 5:39 PM
All my siddurim say מחייה המתים, I hadn't seen הכל so that really narrowed it down
November 28, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Oh crud, I meant "מחייה הכל". 🤦

That probably also tells you how many Reform services I've been to. (One. Because I was on crutches and couldn't get to my shul for YK and my next door neighbors were nice enough to get me to theirs. They're lovely, I see why people like it, it's not my thing. I'd end up yelling at the siddur.)

Googling for "מחייה המתים" to try to figure out if I'd guessed correctly who says that version is surprisingly hard. I ended up searching in transliteration, which was very easy.

That alone really should have answered my question.

Oh, no one wants the food I make and I can't eat anything anyone else makes for medical reasons. It's a real social speed bump.

Particularly funny given how many later kabbalists would fervently disagree about (3). Shomer Emunim has a quite funny rant about how he's a know-nothing

... I'll add that a lot of people with good voices or a Talmud obsession would be terrible congregational rabbis. Including me, to be fair, even if just because I can't share food with others and it's so important to many people.

That's probably less a theory than a conversation starter. My area and profession are multicultural enough that people always have great holidays and are pretty boggled that "pull an all-nighter studying" is one of my favorite holidays

Oh clearly. Some of the personal-branding people would probably still be impressed.
November 26, 2025 at 9:00 PM
The people who keep talking about personal branding stand in awe
November 26, 2025 at 8:58 PM
It's weird how often the brand name isn't gluten-free for no good reason. Immodium isn't gluten free (or wasn't before) but the Target brand is! Rice Krispies contain gluten! Kirkland Signature ibuprofen and acetaminophen are gluten-free!

I'm in a niche market, but thank goodness for generics.

I've read one of his books and mostly concluded that his apologetics have such poor reasoning that I'm embarrassed by proxy. I'm sure others are better.
