My youngest turned 22 today, and tomorrow my wife leaves to visit her newborn nephew. Seeing the outfits she's bringing him reminded me how much simpler parenting used to be. When they were little, I could solve all my kids' problems and felt like a superhero. I wish that were still true today...

I ran the Portland Marathon last Sunday. The city really came out to support us and I'll be forever grateful. Portland is amazing!

Something I think about now and then: My grandfather was five years OLDER than Anne Frank and MLK, Jr. She was killed when my dad was an infant. He was killed before my older brother was born. That really puts history in perspective for me because I got over three decades with my grandfather...

The Portland Marathon is two weeks from today. Ten weeks ago, I was at the same point relative to the SF Marathon. I'm a little slower than I was back then, but feel better prepared...

Hit my training peak this week. The Portland Marathon is in three weeks and I feel like I'm on track...

I usually wonder whey they believe we should never forget... For me, it'll be the trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives lost on wars that should never have happened. It'll be the lies the Bush Administration told to start them and the false patriotism that kept them going...

I recently completed two Peace Literacy courses from the Peace Literacy Institute (www.peaceliteracy.org) through Oregon State. They were interesting and fun, and I particularly enjoyed hearing about the experiences of the other participants.

Made pasta sauce for dinner last night. The veggies got roasted and blended, or chopped and sauteed. The base is Rao's and I also added diced tomatoes, sausage, meatballs, herbs, and spices. Served over bucatini with a side of fresh garlic bread, it all pairs wonderfully with a nice Chianti!
