2/ And one of the (MANY) things that makes this so egregious is that it puts Americans at risk- if we don't abide by the Geneva Conventions why should we expect our enemies to treat our pilots who eject or shipwrecked sailors by those same rules?

If true, this is a war crime. And anyone, from Pete Hegseth to senior military staff, who authorized a war crime should be held accountable.

If a naval vessel is sunk, survivors are "protected persons" per the Geneva convention, like a pilot who ejects after being shot down.
Textbook war crime/extrajudicial killing

"Two survivors were clinging to the smoldering wreck. The Special Operations commander overseeing the Sept. 2 attack ... ordered a second strike to comply with Hegseth’s instructions."

After repeated provocations, drone and aircraft incursions, GPS jamming, rail sabotage, and disinformation, EU and NATO members are weighing cyberattacks on targets critical to Russia’s war effort.

True. But this theater is getting tiresome, and I am not sure it's working for Europe. Perhaps it's time to make it clear to Trump that there are no negotiations instead of leading him to think that there are—and in the process fooling a lot of Europeans into believing that peace is close.
What folks need to realize about "peace talks" is that this is all theater for Washington. Ukraine knows that Russia has no intention of stopping the war, and the Russians know the Ukrainians know that. So this is just all a performance for Trump, hoping he blames the other for the lack of peace.
