That said, I’m at a point where I’m often breaking rules in my compositions to make it more “real” as opposed to everything being perfectly spaced out all the time. Lots of little adjacencies.

I specifically remember this coming up in a critique like 15 years ago, because something in someone’s painting looked off and they insisted that that’s how it just looked in real life. We all decided that they should just change it anyways.

It’s like the right stick controls the swivel of your head while the gyro controls where your eyes are looking, if that makes sense. The Switch Zelda games use this setup, too, when firing an arrow.
