RIP Eddie Guerro! ❤️Truly the GOAT, you will always be missed, Latino Heat! I hope one day my kids can watch his story and see how a person could have such an impact on people's lives just through passion

Since my late 20s I’ve chased financial goals relentlessly, surrounded by grinders pushing harder each day. Yet the great thinkers remind me to be mindful of life’s duality—the destination inspires, but the journey itself is equally meaningful, and the best of us embrace both.

Welcome to the next part of my Jonathan Haidt (@JonHaidt) series. *The Righteous Mind* profoundly impacted my life. It not only explains America’s divides but also offers a compelling theory of human evolution.

Haidt’s research shows happiness grows from:
– Strong social bonds
– Purpose beyond the self
– Resilience built through adversity
– Practices like gratitude & meditation
Happiness emerges from the interaction of inner strengths and outer conditions.

His central metaphor: the rider and the elephant. The rider is our rational mind, the elephant our emotions and intuitions. Real change comes not from forcing the elephant, but from training it—through habits, relationships, and meaning.

The next stop in my Jonathan Haidt mini series is his first book, The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom. Here, Haidt began his career by asking one timeless question: what truly makes us happy?

For those who have kids, just through observing mine, I don't know what I would do if my eldest son didn't have his brother. It's like he has a partner in crime and I find it peculiar that the replacement rate is 2.1 kids per household, it's as though it is what nature intended.

As a dad, I’m applying these principles with my own kids. But this can’t be solved privately—we need activism on what matters most.
Stay tuned: next week I go back to Haidt’s first book, The Happiness Hypothesis: Finding Modern Truth in Ancient Wisdom.

Haidt’s solutions:
– No smartphones before high school (~14)
– No social media before 16
– Phone‑free schools
– Far more free play & independence
He argues these steps, if adopted collectively, can reverse the damage.
October 15, 2025 at 1:03 PM
Haidt’s findings: kids need free play—unsupervised, face‑to‑face, often outdoors. This is where they learn to negotiate rules, resolve conflicts, and build resilience. A phone‑based childhood strips away these essential experiences.

marry a girl who says things like :
- drive safe
- text me when you're at home
- buy the dip
- you're not broke, you're pre-rich
- i'm proud of you

Boys retreat into digital worlds; girls into social comparison. Both lose resilience and real-world skills. Yet Haidt says it’s not too late: treat it as a civilizational challenge—delay phones, limit social media, and rebuild play-based childhood.
