The tech oligarchs are the most organised, determined anti democratic force we’ve seen this side of World War II

For way too long this has been ignored, elided and under estimated

What someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

There are people who think themselves leftwing and who will cheer this on without a single whiff of irony or the fact both these twats live in *federal* states

Can the British state stop this obvious and easily solved scam? Let’s find out!

Ok I know this is not a trendy line of questioning but... What has Wes Streeting actually done? He's very good at keeping the hype about Wes Streeting going, but what has he actually done? What's his pitch?
Angela Rayner and the soft left do not like the idea of a Wes Streeting coronation

Rayner has told friends she would stand in a leadership contest to stop him

This week's New Statesman column 👇🏻 www.newstatesman.com/politics/lab...
Angela Rayner is Wes Streeting’s biggest obstacle to PM
But would she even want to be leader?

"can you still taste the beer in this Guinness cake?" Lady why would you want a piece of a cake named after a beer if you don't want even a hint of the boozy aroma lingering in there

What is the point if this? I suspect there is a measure of misdiagnosis but fat chance that the spike is "fake" or something. It's like wondering why we discovered more start after we built telescopes

I don't understand the idea of the Tories forming a pact with reform being popular. So reform voters get to back the party they just abandoned and Tory voters get bundled in with the party they despise? Frankly anyone who votes for that is beyond salvation

Suspected this might be the case as I know two British nationals who left in the past year and they're both... Greeks who got British citizenship in years prior.
Over 100k of the increase in British nationals emigrating is to Poland, Romania (and Bangladesh). Good work from Freddie Sayers on Unherd in checking the assumptions behind some of the "we all know why" commentary on the online right

👇 This is a) obviously correct b) resisted by most in the political class because it makes so much of what we do redundant.
My extremely simple heuristic for the current political system is that until you can go food shopping and think prices haven’t increased / things aren’t expensive etc don’t expect any material political continuity.

it's amazing how Grimes always ends up in the shit end of the political endeavours he gets involved in, a generational talent
Reform UK went into Durham Council promising to find huge savings. They have managed to GROW the authority's deficit by over £11m *in the last two months*.

Grimes recommends “serious consideration” to increasing council tax “by the maximum 5%.” ~AA

Germany wants to undermine the EU's 2035 clean car mandate and allow "highly efficient combustion engine cars" after that.

What, you may ask, is a "highly efficient combustion engine car"?

"A highly efficient combustion engine car is a combustion engine car that is highly efficient," per the govt.

There is an interview with Sergei Brin's ex-wife and... she's cooked too. Talking about how she and other "Silicon Valley wives" were used to lay the groundwork for "the great reset". That whole set of people is fundamentally lost to conspiracy and self-indulgence.

This nonsense is how radical YIMBYs are made. Objections to a new town on a former RAF base because it might impact the *view from a historic garden 2km away*. www.countrylife.co.uk/gardens/one-...
'One of the truly great gardens of the world' is at risk of having its vistas and tranquility blighted forever
The views from Rousham, the birthplace of the English landscape-garden movement, are at risk of development if plans for the nearby former RAF Upper Heyford Air Force base get the go-ahead.

There are hundreds around me but I sort of knew that already. How odd though, prices around here have gone up 600% since the 90's. Wages? Just over 60% I believe.
We’ve mapped the mansion tax.

You can see who's paying - which constituency, which postcode - and how many "mansions" are near you.

It's no surprise that the Russians targeted far-right politicians with bribes etc, they figured out back in the 00's that with 50-60 million they can basically buy every far-right party in Europe - a bargain if anything! The surprise is all the tankies that continue to do it for free.
