Damn, the pope was a snack.
In The Last Temptation of Christ, Jesus said “Death isn’t a door that closes, it opens. It opens and you go through it.” As I age, seek meaning, endure loss, read about quantum physics, the more I believe in the soul’s continuity. I’m not religious but while we’re here, love & mercy are everything.
What movie are you most thankful for? (not necessarily your favorite!)

This is why I always read my screenplays on paper before showing them to anyone. You’ve gotta approach your own shit with some crude approximation of objectivity to really see just how big a goofball you were when you thought, “Hah! YES. They’d be literally insane to deny my brilliance.” #scriptsky
my sister: why do you delete so many posts

me: sometimes you don't know something's really stupid until you send it out into the world

my mother: *staring at me just a beat too long*

Any screenwriter who doesn’t say, “I’d use my absolute power to force Hollywood to produce my best screenplay” is really missing out on a delightful fantasy that gets increasingly baroque the longer you sip your tea while staring out your home’s largest window.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Pretty Woman is a comedy? Such a rip roaring hilarious comedy that it belongs on a list of the greatest comedies? Hmmm.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!

Hop in my toboggan of wonder and imagination, we’ll zoom away from distressing political discourse. This young man (w/a soothing voice) has (imho) the best film analysis/appreciation channel on YouTube. This one discards film ranking in favor of thematic categories.💫

In a recurring dream I suddenly remember I know how to fly. It’s easy. Confidence is key. My hands cup the air like water to push off the ground, then I propel my body up and forward. For some reason I never fly higher than a rooftop, but the delight of weightless play is, for me, just like writing.
that feeling when you’re writing and the words just lock together is priceless. AI could never.

“Dasha fired by Gersh.” You bolt awake on the banks of the Danube. You are not online. It is 1241 CE and you are Batu Khan. Western Civilization must not come to pass.

The Red Scare hosts are aging, low-rent, reactionary socialites. Their moment passed and they know it. Hosting Fuentes was a desperate bid for attention, like a screaming shitfaced drunk chick flashing her tits as the bouncer drags her from the party. Her choices: total obscurity or Ann Coulter 2.0.

We already knew Vince Gilligan was a TV genius, but I’m thrilled by the art of concise, high-concept, cryptic loglines. This might be the best:

“The most miserable person on earth must save the world from happiness.”

(Collins recaps are always my first stop.) #pluribus

Unsurprisingly, Vince Gilligan’s reentry into the sci-fi genre does not disappoint.

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

Hey, fellow #AFF folks, welcome to Austin! Can’t wait to meet you offline (derelict poster here). If you need any advice on the city, I’m a native Austinite. Gotcha covered. It’s a bummer about The Driskill but Stephen F Austin‘s terrace has a fun French Quarter vibe. Check out the Cloak Room too.

I read the extraordinary
screenplay for #AftertheHunt (no hyperbole) by Nora Garrett and I’m mystified by the film’s negative reviews. There are differences between script and film (natch) but the meta-conversation on our contemporary moral panopticon is thunderous on the page and screen. #scriptsky

It’s fascinating how everyone tacitly agreed to forget that this entire episode is about Don being fixated on Ginsberg and envious of his talent, just so we could have the joy of the gif. If only we could harness this collective mythologizing for something that matters.

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.
