If we let farmers lose their land, we can blame them for why we lose people to starvation instead of the wealthy who are waiting to pounce and turn it into data centers. They have to make sure they have a scapegoat for.the starvation they're planning. They think most of us are disposable. Save farms

🚨 IMPORTANT THREAD 🚨

People are protesting the Broadview ICE facility tonight. This will likely be an extremely high-risk action. I caution you to consider your risk level before attending. I will not attend.

Attendance risks your safety, but also the safety of Broadview residents + detainees. 1/6

Sharing a piece I wrote last week, responding to the bizarrely horrify announcement from the Oklahoma superindentent of school that all high school in his state will now have mandatory Turning Point USA chapter in "honor" of Charlie Kirk.

Wow — Italy and Spain have now both officially announced they're sending military ships to support the Gaza aid flotilla
Remarkable document: hundreds of European politicians are calling to mobilize European resources to protect the Sumud aid flotilla as it faces escalating attacks on its way to Gaza.

In other words: European politicians are trying to protect humanitarian volunteers *from Israel.*

I didn't see everything nominated, but of what I did see, Andor was, IMHO, the best thing on TV this year. Glad it got the 5... and a little salty there weren't more, especially for this amazing cast.
The Emmys are over and ANDOR comes away with an incredible 5 awards out of 14 nominations 🏆

Check out a full list of all the Emmys that ANDOR won and was nominate for (+ learn about the record that Andor broke tonight) here: theholofiles.com/2025/09/14/a...

Y'know that Guardian article which cited an anonymous friend of Tyler Robinson claiming he was the only "leftist" in his family?

It just got updated after the "verified source" decided he couldn't remember his "relationship" with the accused shooter well enough to be quoted

It would be nice if the US had ways to solve problems that weren't guns, prison & fines. With very rare exception though, that's the menu.

I'm not "glad Kirk's dead".
I am glad he stopped talking.

There were other ways we could have gotten there. Like not platforming him for spewing hate. But no.

The whole thread.
The Charlie Kirk shooting brings up some very uncomfortable conversations about decorum in political discourse.

Did I want someone to stroll up and shoot him? No. But also, “Violence isn’t the answer” is easy to say when you are not part of a group targeted by Charlie’s violence.

Too long to post here, so if you are on FB please go read Matt Stannard's long post re: "debate" and Kirk. It gets at so much of our discomfort with the way that word is misused to obfuscate that deeply bad intentions of Kirk et al.

Pritzker, Bernie, AOC (& whole Squad), many state AGs, Mamdani, Wyden, etc... plenty of less problematic people have stepped up. Credit Newsom for doing what he's doing, but it take a lot of things to defeat fascism. Let's not get seduced by good social media into thinking he is all the things.

A federal judge ordered that no more immigrant detainees be sent to the “Alligator Alcatraz” detention center in the Florida Everglades, and that much of the facility be dismantled. The ruling rebuked the state and federal governments for failing to consider potential environmental harms.

Saying that all Jewish people everywhere are somehow implicated in the Israeli government's actions is like saying that me, a woman with some German ancestry and a German last name, should be implicated in the current German government's decisions.

You realize how whacked that sounds, right?

If you've never seen Crip Camp, now is the time.
The ADA was signed on July 26, 1990—35 years ago today. This would be a great day to (re-)watch the documentary Crip Camp (Netflix) in commemoration. Also a great day to think about how we defend the law’s underlying principles in the face of a eugenics-riddled Administration.
