Psychotherapist, private practice. Psychodynamic psychology.
If you leave those connector ends for several hours in a glass of water while plugged in, they will start to fizzle, corrode, and then the charger will stop working. Important knowledge I possess.

Oh… so this all isn’t deadly serious? Like, the fate of society isn’t decided here? …backs out slowly

This seems in keeping with the direction being taken in the broader mental health world, which I think is a problem. As I’m becoming increasingly involved with said institutes I’m of course now trying to guess which one.

I’ll have to read. Haven’t had a chance. But I’m reminded of the difference between the reason for a particular thought, and the reason for the capacity for conscious thought itself.

Oh no. The symbolism here.

Haha I had no idea about that particular part

I suppose what we’re all doing here is something besides “discussion,” the definition of which I have no idea haha

Other key phrase, coined by Dr. Sarnat: “The better bad object.” Spoiler: that is the therapist.

Key concept: parallel process—therapist countertransference is expressed in supervision, effecting supervisor in ways that say sainting about patient and therapy process. Supervisor’s behavior towards supervisee translates into supervisee’s behavior towards patient.

In no way do I dispute this. But lately I’ve been feeling like talking about really anything at all is nearly impossible on these platforms. Now, there a good chance this is because of myself, my definitions, proclivities, etc. And I realize you may have meant it’s difficult in any context.

I don’t think people understand how people work, I think, is kind of a brilliant statement. We don’t understand how we work. Yes.

It’s country wide. Exacerbated in cultures of excessive politeness. Someone stopped for me today on a cross street WITHOUT A STOP SIGN.

I think one example of this sort of disingenuousness is, e.g., “The cause of depression is unknown,” or similar, from large research organizations. In a nomothetic sense, yes maybe it’s unknown. But for an individual the cause can become quite clear with exploration. The messaging could be better.

I hope you take this as a good faith question. I’ve read your idea of psychological problems several times. I’m thinking this part through myself. It’s a quite humanistic perspective which I like.
January 9, 2025 at 2:07 AM
I think I agree. I wonder what you think about values that are potentially corrupted, and no longer a good determinant of psych problems. Not in any way related to trans issues. But more broadly, do someone’s values always operate in the interest of their health? Not sure I have a position here.

We have this in my area. It doesn’t sound like it’s run here quite as good as that.

Haha hmmm….

I get calls from insurance companies I’m not in-network with asking me to do surveys because they want to pad their in-network provider numbers.

Oh my gosh this is such typical insurance nonsense
