Was also hoping that Justine Mettraux, who'll be the first woman to cross the line, could sneak past Thomas Ruyant to finish 7th overall - but just not enough speed & a little too much distance in the final 100nm stretch.
👏🏽 to Ruyant, Mettraux & Sam Goodchild for fantastic races

Dalin really has sailed a great race.

Chapeau in advance ... in anticipation of him crossing the finish line in say 14-16 hrs.

I think the use of preventers on race boats vary. I've done long offshore races on boats with & without them.
If rigged well, I think the benefits far outweigh the minor inconvenience of using them.

They changed they're procedures so people had to traverse forward / backward underneath the traveller (which was about one high from one side of the cockpit to the other).

Definitely Chinese gybe for the first one.
Sadly the main sheet incident seems to be somewhat reflective of an incident on the Clipper Round the World race a few éditions ago where a man was also killed by a mainsheet in a storm situation. Far bigger boat & much bigger load though.

Although originally reported as both having been struck by booms, only one was struck by the boom.
Equally sadly however, the other was caught by a whipping main sheet (not confirmed whether a planned or a Chinese gybe), which knocked the guy down & his head landed on a winch.
Both totally tragic.

1. Arrows encircled by red: tide / current directions & relative strengths
2. T-symbols encircled in green, in the create: springs from the seabed
3. Symbology encircled in blue at the mouth of the crater: breaking waves, over the very shallow depth there... which is why you'd need to dinghy in 😁

... noise sensitive areas in national parks which may affect permitted flight paths &/or min flight altitudes.

IMHO, some of this may be beyond the Nepali CAA.
In any case it would require cooperation between them, the national govt & Sagarmartha Park management.
