I study reading and dyslexia, especially across languages. Psycholinguist, cognitive scientist, Open Science advocate, academic mum. I love books, languages, travelling.
I'm glad I chose Jamie Ward's "The student's guide to cognitive neuroscience" as the textbook for my CogNeurosci course. It's the textbook I wish I'd had as a student - easy to read, clear, and with examples connecting neuroscience and cognitive science.

I'll officially start my job as acting professor at the Chair of General Psychology at @tudresden.bsky.social tomorrow! I can't complain about the view from my office window...

Morning jog in #Sheffield, Crookes Valley Park. Does anyone at #ESCOP2025 have any other recommended routes? I tried the Five Weirs Walk, but it's rather run down with detours along big roads, unfortunately.

In my #OpenScience class, I said that the #peerreview system is unsustainable & predicted that it will collapse in the coming years.

And here's a an e.g. of why it's not sustainable. I spent half a day to write a review. Now I'm fighting the log-in system. Who has the #time for that? @plosone.org

@psytoolkit.org, I have a question or possibly a request for a new feature in survey creation: I'm designing a survey in Urdu, and my collaborator tells me that the default left-alignment doesn't really work with the Arabic script. Is there a way to change at least the alignment of the question, ...

This has been my office this week! 😅 Today's the last long trip in a series of 4 this week. I can't complain about #DeutscheBahn, all trains have been surprisingly on time. But I'm still looking forward to being back in my home office next week. #IchBinHanna #commute

I don't like to post about politics, but... Is the #German Office for Migration and Refugees, co-funded by the #EuropeanUnion, really giving me hints that I should go back wherever I came from?

The photos are from one of the places described in the blog post. Let's see if anyone can guess which one it is!

The room looks empty, but it really isn't: everyone is just sitting in the back for some reason! Interesting insights from @hannawoloszyn.bsky.social on how #LLMs provide texts with less #lexicaldiversity than kids' productions.

Is it just me, or are #JournalSubmissionGuidelines getting more and more ridiculous? I basically never manage to submit without getting my paper sent back with some completely arbitrary and useless requests for re-formatting.

Why do we even need journals again?

Two more weeks to register for our meeting on Quantifying #Orthographic-Semantic regularities! In case the content sounds very tempting but you need an additional nudge to make the decision to register, here are two nice photos I took of #Munich! #QuaSemO24
