The only thing that's ever improved life for the poor and working class under capitalism is a strong redistributive social policy.

Everything else: “free markets uplift everyone,” “entrepreneurship solves poverty,” is libertarian mythology. A comforting bedtime story.

Inequality is the operating principle. And until the working class builds power outside the donor-captured parties that administer this arrangement, the machine will keep doing exactly what it was built to do since the founding.
Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

I wish publishers would focus on well-written books that reward the reader's intellect, instead of formulaic crap written at a fourth-grade reading level. Unfortunately, pandering to the lowest common denominator with "See Dick and Jane solve murder" makes the most money.

If you could change one thing about the publishing industry, what would it be? I wish that being a debut author was welcomed, not rejected #writingq #WritingCommunity

I think the thing about writing books that annoys me is that you have to keep relearning how to write them. Each book is different and asks different things of you. You have to keep growing and shit.

There is a book club organization out there emailing authors telling them the club will feature their work for a "modest fee" for "branded materials" etc. Do not fall for this nonsense. You should never, as a writer, have to pay for such things.

Progressives have to stop treating the Democratic Party like a safe house. It's a filtration system built to strain out anything that rattles wealthy donors.

Progressives need to build power themselves with organizing networks that won’t collapse the second some consultant says “tone it down.”

In the U.S., the word “utopian” is hauled out to describe as impossibly imaginary what other nations take for granted: affordable healthcare, reliable transit, wages that keep pace with the cost of living, a life without crushing debt.

Analysis: The Post found that documents recounting President Ronald Reagan’s relations with the Soviet Union in the early 1980s, one of the most dangerous periods of the Cold War, have been removed.

The State Department had deleted history.

Key historical records about the incident during the Reagan administration, known as the Able Archer 83 War Scare, were removed without explanation.

A socialist analysis of the Epstein emails release should begin with the recognition that no society built on this kind of hierarchy can ever deliver justice appropriately.

I will never vote for a party that gleefully attacks the vulnerable like this Labour government has attacked:

• refugees

• trans people

• disabled people

• children in poverty

Even if they claim some bogeyman wants to do it too.

There’s no point in Fascism Lite™.

That means new public health experts could lose access to key higher ed resources, like loan limits & reimbursement.

A bold strategy to let infectious diseases win! 🦠

The donor-captured Democratic establishment has convinced progressives and leftists in their ranks that being heard is somehow equivalent to being in any way heeded or considered.
