Hrotsvitha was a secular canoness, considered the first female writer from the Germanosphere, the first female historian, the first person since the Fall of the Roman Empire to write dramas in the Latin West, and the first German female poet.

Hilda of Whitby, or Hild, was known for her wisdom and leaders from both the Celtic and Roman traditions of Christianity sought her advice. She was the founder and first abbess of the monastery at Whitby, and later recongized as a saint.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is in northeastern Alaska, U.S. on Gwich’in land. It is the largest national wildlife refuge in the country, and includes polar bears, grizzly bears, black bears, moose, caribou, wolves, eagles, lynx, wolverine, marten, beaver and migratory birds.

Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin was a astronomer & astrophysicist who discovered what makes up stars. ✨

In her 1925 doctoral thesis, she proposed that stars were composed primarily of hydrogen & helium. Her work was foundational to modern astrophysics.
