Children's Librarian who has all the librarian interests you would expect (cats, crafting, books, socialism) and a few you wouldn't (dance, gymnastics, F1, k-pop ggs, bouldering)
Within the first 6 months I worked in a public library (which didn't have filtering software on the computers because of intellectual freedom concerns), there were 3 different incidents where patrons were caught watching porn on computers. It's shockingly common.

I read it after the YMA Awards last year and loved it! I was so different from Riley as a child, but you made her so easy to empathize with. I think that's really important for the goody two shoes to read books that make them understand the class clowns.

Is that why A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking didn't get published by Tor? I remember feeling a lot of confused anger when reading your note at the end about publishers saying it was too dark for kids. Kids love dark!

If they're on the younger side of YA, "A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking" is more fantasy, but is definitely funny and has some light horror elements
If they're older, "Gwen & Art are Not in Love" had very funny banter in a historical(ish) queer romance.

If they're kind of nerdy "The Pros of Cons" is very funny realistic fiction with some light romance.
"Plain Jane & the Mermaid" by Brosgol is a funny fantasy romance graphic novel.
Another realistic graphic novel option might be "Huda F Are You"

Chapter Books only or graphic novels too?

It took me way too long to realize that NBA is the National Book Award in this context and not the National Basketball Association.

The Newberys all felt like surprises to me; it seemed that Hank Hooperman was on everyone's lists, so I figured it would at least get an honor! Many holds to place now.

My only sadness is that "I'm Sorry You Got Mad" by Kyle Lukoff didn't get anything. An epistolary picture book! With the perfect blend of humor and thoughtfulness! Definitely one of my favorites of the year.
